Why isn't the throat variation of the RNC used more in MMA and BJJ?

I recall hadaka-jime which is literally naked choke as being a throat choke, while i saw the mataleo as a different technique applied as a blood choke, RNC could refer to both

All of them are naked chokes, and i find all of them useful under their specific circumstances. However i find that virtually no BJJ or MMA fighter does them, except Fedor.

I really find no reason why use the mataleo over hadakajime in gi, match but i find the mataleo very good for no-gi, which one do you use? or do you even know the differences?

Anyway here is a japanese JJ (i guess) video showing the hadakajime as both the mataleo and the hadakajime seen in judo.

There is also a very good variation as counter to NS but its not the point of the video.

Here is a video of Fedor using the hadaka jime in MMA.

Sorry about the overused music.

What do you think?

Then you haven't been looking. The variation you're talking about is used all the time. For example at the KOTC event this weekend, both Daniel Cormier and Quinn Mulhern finished their fights with the palm-to-palm grip, if that's what you're talking about. Randy Couture put Coleman to sleep with that choke. That's just immediately off the top of my head.

Oh, Hughes-Trigg 2.

Interesting, i really don't watch much UFC, its kind of expensive and i don't get cable, i usually try to watch as many as i can but i never really paid attention until recently, when Hughes used that same mechanics from the front headlock instead of the classic bicep trapping of the anaconda.

Also because nobody at my BJJ school heard of the variation, i thought its not very efficient as it seems you need more strength as opposed to the mataleo, but maybe im simply doing it wrong.
