After finally giving up the booze on day 2 I went into full blown body numbness and was vomiting constantly. I lost my job so I spent all of May getting hammered day and night.

Im still in the healing process right now but it seems impossible to sleep and still really sensitive to sunlight and soumd. For all you boozers on here ne careful of this stuff. I honestly thought I was going to be dead.

Cliffs:gave up alcohol, and almost died in the process.

no cliffs needed my friend, it was a short read.

Dang, I hope you get better. I'm glad you did something about it though. It's too easy to give up and send in your resignation so to speak. Are you going to check yourself into rehab? Was this a one time thing or do you have a history of alcoholism?

DT's are terrifying.

Hope you make full recovery, pal.

As much as I love a beer or 6, and brandy on the rocks, but I just can't ever see myself getting hooked. Alcohol isn't that nice.

I went through this at a really young age brother. It was pretty damn rough. Years later, i can have a beer and let that be the end of it. I never desire more than a couple. I know its a dumb thing to do and testing fate but i do it on occasion. I wish you luck man.

I guess the good news is that part of it is over. Now its a mind thing over a body thing. Keep it up though man.

I have a deep history of drinking too much, too often. What sucks is im going to ufc here in town tomorrow and im hoping I can enjoy myself during the fights. Rehab has to wait but it probably shouldnt.

Ehhh....nah I dont think I could do that. Then im right back to drinking 24 packs and using them to chase rum.

Dude so you are going to go back to where you started? Doesn't make sense. You start drinking again and you know that you aren't going to stop. You already detoxed yourself and you're going to put your body through that bullshit again?

Do whatever you want but I'm trying to make sense of it.

That's the life of an addict.

Don't drink at the UFC event man. Your body won't like it and you'll end up having a miserable time.

Get a hospital bill yet?

The human body has had thousands of years to adapt. Alcohol is seen as a poison to system so it builds up enzymes to fight that poison. The more you drink the more enzymes are produced by the body to combat it.

I think you have had a hypoglycaemic reaction to going away from the booze

You needed some thiamine, multivitamins and ativan to deal with the DT's. Madmick is right about the DT's.

DT's are terrifying.
What Madmick said, alcohol and both barbiturate/benzodiazepine withdrawals can prove to be fatal if one stops cold turkey.

This is why it is necessary for one who has been abusing the substances over an extended period of time to go to a hospital or rehab facility to detox properly while being monitored by doctors and nurses. I've had one good friend die from alcohol withdrawal. He took matters into his own hand and decided to stop cold turkey without any intervention and or proper detoxing.

I have no sympathy for alcoholics

That's why you're a Can.

I knew an ex-military guy who was a GREAT man who had had some rough relationship luck. When I met him he was very sober for a good chunk of time. He was a fitness junkie and very socially active. One day he had a beer, and was ok. Beer or two here, beer or two there.

Fast forward 2 weeks and he was drinking a pint of whiskey as soon as he woke up and then polishing off a 40 and flat of beer throughout the rest of the day. He had shakes 24/7 and would randomly cry or yell about very personal issues.

Probably one of the most tragic things I've had to experience. There is way more to this story but I'm gonna leave out the worst of it.
