And it was freaking awesome! Best shave I've probably ever had. Only question I ask myself is, why did I wait to come to America on vacation to get it done? Obviously all the time would be a costly exercise but before a big occasion it's sure as hell worth it.

Anyone else get barbershop shaves?

I don't but last time I got my haircut I watched my barber do a shave. He took a lot of time and detail and it looked like a nice experience.

Yea I get it once in a while from my barber. I go to a couple of paisans in the neighborhood, they are old school. It really is great, but I usually only spring for it occasionally. Love that hot towel before the shave, and I feel like a baller when I get it done, the only thing after that would be to find some kid to shine my shoes

Only once. Hot chick face massage is money well spent, but it is damn expensive plus I like having a beard.

Not me.

I've always wanted to, but I'm not trying to get a straight razor buried in my neck because a motherfucker sneezed.

Guess name change didn't work ?

Correct.

Whisky, I stressed a little a first but he was really gentle and careful along the Adam's apple. Trust me, once you've started you'll enjoy it.

I too like my beard (or my attempt at one) so just have it shaped and cleaned up. Even the word awesome doesn't do it justice! I've had 2 since being here, one with a girl and the other with a barber and I much preferred the guy - so much more attention to detail and really cleaned the beard up nice.

One of my former teammates became a licensed barber and did amazing straight razor shaves and haircuts. It was worth it for a special occasion like a wedding or something where you needed to be photogenic. You kind of understand what all the "spa day" fuss is about with the ladies, as this is kind of the male equivalent.

When I was in college I went to a seriously old-school barber shop but didn't get straight razor shaves. Skin mags, sports radio, barber pole, the guys were all over 60 and wore uniforms that looked like a bowling team...the whole nine yards. They had this big diabolical looking machine that looked like a hardwood floor sander that they'd use to massage your neck, shoulders, and scalp at the end of your cut.

Ain't nothing wrong with pamper sessions. I can also say that a petticure is right up there with a barbershop shave. Honestly, I too can see why women do these kind of things (hair, nails etc) on a regular basis.

I just switched to a safety razor and it is amazing. I am still interested in getting a shave at the barber though.

It's on the bucket list of things to do. Maybe I will do it before my wedding or something.

I haven't tried either.....just getting used to my safety razor first. My goal is to be able shave my head in the shower with a straight blade.
