Basically I'm a 16 year old male who has just taken a considerable break from combat sports due to GCSE examinations (we're talking late march is the last time I have trained) and now I'm going back to Muay Thai class tomorrow. I can't wait to train, as it's been so long. Before I left I was due to take place in a fight (obviously with headgear etc. due to age restrictions) but had to drop out as I had a playoff hockey match to attend to.
I, like everyone, have my weaknesses. Cardio is one, and it has only got worse since I stopped training and placed more emphasis on SS. Another is my flexibility which again has degraded. When fighting in MT sparring or bouts, I often utilise my size and strength for my age to get in close and hit the opponent with a lot of dirty boxing and clinch knees. My punches are far more effective than my kick strikes, mainly due to the fact I only throw teeps and leg kicks, and rarely throw with intention to attack (e.g. my kicks act as part of my defense).
I hope to soon get into MMA and would love to practice Judo but there are no good instructors or gyms nearby which is a disappointing prospect. Anyway I started this thread for others to put their experiences with training in their art, whether it be recent or not and just to learn about how others train.
Some may think It's a pointless thread but hey, I have 8 weeks of holiday, what am I supposed to do?! Thanks.
