my main concentration at the moment is judo but i also train bjj(1 day gi 1 day no gi week) and muay thai, and wouldnt mind getting in to mma at some point.

in the not too distant future i was considering going to thailand to polish up on my striking but i came across this H.I.T. Squad - Hughes Intensive Training

it looks excellent value for money and for mma purposes could posibly be better than thailand, anybody know wht the striking training is like?

If you want to do MMA, go do that. Going to Thailand will improve your muaythai for muaythai. They are different sports. You will not become Anderson Silva by training with Matt Hughes. Your wrestling may go through the roof though. :D I think going to Thailand is great if you want to do muaythai but not for MMA. There is one exceptional MMA striker and the rest are not close to him and he didn't pick up his training in Thailand so why go if you goal is MMA?

I don't fully agree with that, their is definitely stuff that crosses over from Muay Thai to MMA. Its one thing if he is training and competing under Muay Thai rules and then jumping into MMA where strategy is a lot different, but the training in Thailand would have a bigger impact on the quality of his striking than training at Hugh's camp. However, Hugh's camp would probably better for you if you are interested in MMA. Robbie Lawler is there so at least their has to to some decent striking coaches, just not at the level you would get in Thailand.

Robbie is more of a brawler. When was the last time he actually had a game plan for a fight. There are certain aspects of muaythai that would be almost useless to him cause he would be setting himself up for a takedown. He is already training in judo and bjj so why not go full on MMA training. One month in Thailand is not going to shoot his standup that much. Especially if he has never done it. There is an important question!!! TS, how much standup training in any martial art have you had?

about 6 months muay thai and will continue to study muay thai until i go sometime in the next 3-9months.i may also pick up some boxing at some point.

and 4 years tkd but that was so long ago its irrelevant.

im 5'9 195lbs so due to my stocky build i know im probably not going to be a great striker.

to give him credit he has improved his standup in that he focuses on def alot more, can move (intelligently) in a direction other than forward; actually throws combos instead of flurries or loaded up shots and has actually dev a decent clinch game, as well as setups to his strikes.

he used to just wade in, but he has gotten better; the old lawler u mention would have gotten run over by scott smith twice, the new guy was aggressively picking him apart w/the exception of a few mental/tech lapses.

stocky lol although after a recent holiday and too much beer i may be approaching fat

at a guess current bodyfat % would be 14% i am very active have achieved to a high level in rugby league and am hoping to in the not too distant future have some success in martil arts.

now how would stocky or fat change the decision :icon_lol:
