I'm attending CSULB next Fall and I'm trying to find a gym within 5-10 miles of the campus. It could be any type of striking gym as long as it reasonably priced and of course, legitimate.

    Any suggestions?

Chute Boxe is just a little further down 7th St. I've seen some good, some bad from their fighters.

To clarify, it doesn't have to be in Long Beach, just adjacent.

Couldn't give you specifics, just remember seeing some of their guys who weren't too impressive.

Also check out OC Muay Thai, not far from CSULB in Seal Beach.

I've heard good things about OC Muay Thai. Do you know the monthly price? I'm willing to pay no more than a 100 per month.

Sherdog gear reviewer extraordinaire ClampXVII teaches out of NHC Martial Arts in Seal Beach. Classes are friendly, small in size, and economical, plus Clamp's a great teacher. You can also check out his grandpa's place, Long Beach Kickboxing Academy -- learn Kun Khmer (Cambodian kickboxing) from a former national champion!

Thanks, man. I'm probably going to have to make a list of all these places so I can visit them and make a decision based on the free trials.

That would have been my first choice actually but it's too far from campus.

Thread Necromancy! for my first post, I'm bumping an old one . . . didn't want to start another.

I live in belmont shore. i'm currently in the decision making process as far as gyms go.
I've done the research and pounded the pavement to visit most of these places. just looking for some experienced words of wisdom from you sherdoggers. thanks! I should also note that I'm interested in striking /standup like MT, but I guess I want to be well rounded, so secondary training in BJJ isn't out of the question. I honestly don't know how much i'll enjoy BJJ.

    it's down to:

Chute Boxe - they were nice dudes. place is pretty small. walking distance from my house. There's a $29.00 one month deal right now. MT and BJJ.

OC Muay Thai - heard it's hardcore and spacious. also really close to me. lots of sparring. still fairly affordable. pure MT; 'as good as it gets' I hear from friends.

Brazilian Top Team - one of the most reputable BJJ joints in LB. I guess they have MT also, curious how good it is. may mix both here.

any other suggestions also heard. I know the gear review dude in Los Al has good rep, also. man this is tough! so-cal is truely blessed with great schools everywhere.

what about Boxing Works in Torrance? used to be in Hermosa Beach but they just moved to a new gym in Torrance this month, evidently.

sure, its a bit of a drive but Brian Popejoy seems to have a good rep as an instructor and Kronphet teaches out of there (at least i think he does).

hard to beat training with a Thai when it comes to their sport. both of them are very nice guys from my limited interaction with them.

Chute Boxe - You will learn from Gerson Schilipack the US Head Coach , and Bjj from Omar Delucca , Black Belt under Cleber Luciano , both coaches with over 20 years experience. In Long Beach it is the only gym offering great level in all areas .
