Trainers state to leave ego at the door. Well how about the trainers do the same!! Both times in a boxing gym, I was told to 100% abandon my stance/technique and learn their's, which totally disrespects what I've "gone to war" with in the past and learned in the past (which was fairly successful). I have yet to see 2 fighters with the same standup style. If they didn't know who he was, they'd try to turn Chuck Liddell into classic form. How different is he from Crocop? How different is CC from A.Silva? How different is Silva from Fedor? Get the point? It's not form that makes you successful. It's how you fight.

I'm not going to lose a fight because my elbow wasn't facing a certain way while in my stance. Instead, get me sparring and teach me counterpunching, leverage, head-movement, etc... Don't f.ucking tell me how to "walk" all over again, in unnatural fashion. Especially when I see some of those above fighters doing things totally different. Some things (keeping hands high, arms tight, balance, etc...) is fine. But I'm sick of being their piece of clay to mold all over again. One trainer told me to never hit the speed bag, as it's only a toy. I guess Pretty Boy Floyd, DLH and every great boxer ever were wrong.

You'll get along very well with KingKabuki, some trainers only want to work on they way they trained cause thats the "right" way.

Find a different gym if you dont like it there. I only say that because thats how gyms work, a trainers going to teach what he knows and if you dont agree with it. Then your at the wrong gym.

Good luck, keep your chin down and your hands up.

Sounds like you should train at home by yourself, because everyone else is just going to hold you back.

There is no correct fighting pose, as I can't think of 2 fighters with the same. I feel extremely comfortable with a Randy Couture type of stance: Hands up and not sticking way out. It's not how you pose, but how you fight. As long as you follow some basic rules (hands up, chin down, leg space, etc..) then the trainers need to get past the da mn pose and work on fighting. I.E. - bring the punch back with the fist high. Don't drop the right when throwing the left. Does Fedor's fighting pose matter?

Well you could try to be very open and try to learn something from them. Just take a deep breath and try it their way....if not then you know where the door is..........
