I think Gustafsson fought a lot like D Cruz in the fight with Jones, and I think a guy that big that could implement a game plan like Cruz will give a lot of fighters fits just like Jones.

    Requires too much energy.

Cruz can do it because he's a cardio freak.

Gus was tired by round 3.

Yea your right about that and Cruz's style is not one that ends fights quick but with a little more cardio and Wrestling I think Gus can pull it off

No he wasn't. Did you see the first 4 minutes of round 4? What really killed his cardio was nearly getting finished. He was a zombie from that point on.

I kept thinking Gus was getting tired but he wasn't surprisingly. He looked great in round 4. I was even shocked as to how he managed to get back to his feet in round 5 despite looking so sloppy after nearly getting KO'd.

And let's not forget that Jones absolutely worked his legs!!! That definitely slowed him down.

People are refusing to acknowledge this but Gus's leg was hurt from those kicks. He was clearly limping in round 5 so I'm sure it affected his movement earlier then that.

I can't wait to see the rematch between these two though I would prefer they each get a fight in before that. Machida vs Gus and Jones vs Glover would be great on the same card.

I remember Travis Browne talking about trying to emulate Dominick Cruz's style as well before he left Alliance to go train at Jackson's. It's a great style if you can make it work.

If Cruz can use it to full affect in his return then i think he could still challenge Barao, even with the layoff.

qft, Cruz's cardio reminds me of Sean Sherk after five rounds. Stands up and walks back to his corner looking like he could go 5 more.

I guess Condit is the WW Cruz because he used movement, footwork, and in and out striking against Diaz.

I remember him looking very light on his feet against Bigfoot. Didn't work out well for him on that occasion, since he injured his knee doing it, but still, very Cruz-esque.

This my friends, is a great example of how White Belt isn't a post count, but a state of mind.

Cruz is the better ballerina, or at least was pre-injury.

Cruz has way better cardio. You could see Gus getting tired in the last two rounds.

Cruz is able to bang for five full rounds meaning that he can implement a much better gameplan.

Looking at the first three round where cardio didn't come into play, I would have to agree that Cruz and Gus due share some similarities.

Ive said this exact same thing about Gus=Cruz in numerous replies on threads. It is a very effective way to utilize in and out punching. Jones stood in the center and kept rotating with him which is why Gus took so many spinning back kicks to the body. It also helped to eliminate the straight kick effectiveness of Jones. Remember how devastating the front kick to the knees and body were when Jones picked Rampage apart? Rampage stood directly in front of JJ and paid for it with a hyper-extended left knee at one point.

Who is this Cruz you're talking about? A former champion or something?
