I've been thinking about it and why not? He's in no mans land @LHW and I think he matches up well physically w most of the Heavies (with the exception of Ngannou). Not only does he match up well.physically but I think he would do just fine skill wise against the top 10.

Let's see how he looks against Smith first, and if he still has any motivation left. He has to finish Smith and make it look easy to stay relevant.

I’d say more likely to go down to MW if he’s serious about a belt

I kind of expected him to already be up there by now

He'd beat every HW except Stipe

Why would you want him to cut even more weight

Ngannou walks through his punches and kills him, like Rumble.

    May be worth a shot

Should be faster than everyone at HW and has better cardio.

Has to avoid the big shots.

    Nganou would be very troubling.

Basically what I think. Gus isn't exactly a power puncher. Would he be able to have a significant increase in power to put down the beasts in that division? Consider me skeptical.

Can he hit hard enough at HW though? He has cardio and output but I just don't see him dropping guys like Lewis or Ngannou or Stipe and obviously if DC sticks around he mauls him.

Gus and Jones may be tall but they are built for LHW

While he has the frame for a HW one has to think he doesn’t compete there for a reason, that being said Gus at HW would be very interesting.

I don't think he'd be successful at HW and I seriously question how well he will do at LHW moving forward. He has been so ridiculously inactive over the last 7 years (and a lot of it was by choice, not because of injury) that I don't know how much he actually enjoys fighting.

His career has become more myth than substance at this point as his resume of wins is arguably the worst out of any top 5 fighter in any division yet people still cling to one performance from 6 years ago. Until he fights 2-3 times a year and we actually get a good look at him, I don't see how anyone could project big things from him at this time IMHO

Technical abilities and punch precision >>> raw power

If you hit anyone enough and at the right spot they will go down and stay down.

Anytime I hear about a LHW moving up to HW I question their success and even with some of the best ever like Jones, or Gus. There is a reason why there has never been a LHW since we've started watching this sport move up and do well at HW. There has been HW's moving down and then back up, but never the other way around.

Perhaps the size is too much.

Weird thing to say considering Gus fought like shit against DC and still almost beat him.

Gus doesn't look like he has evolved in the slightest. At HW DC has better power chin and probably cardio. How will Gus be better exactly?
