I was curious why no one really mentions how Jones injured his foot in the first round of the Gus fight and basically fought one footed?

It gives some clarity to Alexander being able to take Jones down and the difficulty Jones had taking Alexander down.

Should Alex have tried more takedowns?

Thoughts?

Another Jones thread.

I agree with this in premise, the thing that worries me is i'm not sure we're going to see healthy foot Jones again anytime soon, 3 straight fights now it's been hurt.

He seemed to be moving fine to me. I call BS

Another apologist thread.

That's original...

I like what you did there. I can appreciate the sentiment. I have just never seen a thread address this pivotal occurance that gave Gus the biggest advantage he was going to get and probably the single reason the fight was so close. Agree, disagree?

Excuses!

Jones apologist 101

Pretend Gus didn't put a beating on Jones!

Discredit Gus by saying injured or Jones didn't train!

Jones isn't really an a$$hole he is just taking on the heel roll!

"Jones showed true grit tonight fighting through a badly injured foot, possibly shattered...early on in the fight."

He's got the belt, no apologies needed.

Hold on Big Fella! The question was "should Gus have attempted more takedowns"?
Yes or no. Can you stay with us on this one?

Like I said, another apologist thread.

What else is new...

Oh and Gus didn't lose the fight, he was robbed.

Despite how any judge scored it the fact remains..

The *large* majority of MMA fans pretty much everywhere saw Gus winning, that large majority who had him winning weren't imagining it.. and the *large* majority of MMA FIGHTERS saw Gus winning as well, that large majority of MMA fighters weren't imagining it either. Check out the twitter feed for the event, and see for yourself. Also go to pretty much every MMA website that has a forum, and see all the cries of robbery. It's not just a handful of people who saw Gus win. It's the overwhelming majority of people everywhere, even MMA fighters themselves.

Why couldn't Weidman finish a badly rocked Silva while on top of him for the whole first round?

Thanks, I will check it out. Have not followed much on twitter feeds but, sounds like another source of perspective. Funny, I can see twitter headquarters from where I live.
