Everyone knows that Conor's best chance at beating Nate is with his power shots. Every thing that Conor says points to it as well.

Gunnar seems to disagree. As one of the 4 fighters out of 41!! to pick Conor to win, this is what he has to say:

Gunnar Nelson: "I think if Conor takes his time and breaks him down, does what he does best, uses his speed a little better and maybe not concentrate on power as much, I think he will walk through Diaz"

What do folks think about this? Does it even make sense? Is Gunnar just playing the "good teammate" role?

In what world can Conor beat Diaz without concentrating on power?

BRING THE PAIN BRING THE PAIN BRING THE PAIN

Obviously. Conor's best chance is switching it up like he's done in plenty of fights before, instead of just spamming the left as hard as he can and gassing out again.

well i don't doubt that he can out-strike diaz for most of the fight...but i do doubt that he can keep it up for 5 rnds. I know if I go like 70% effort on a punching bag, they're still crisp shots and I can go for awhile...but once I start throwing full effort...I burnout real fast

the problem is that when conor tries to take a break and catch a breather, that's when diaz will pour it on him and overwhelm.

Conor can beat Nate Diaz. There's a common gameplan to beat him, that you bums that have been watching the past five months clearly aren't aware about since you've decided to put an aura of invicibility around a man that has lost 10 times.

There's an expression in boxing like "Don't chase the knockout; Get knocked out" or something like that jk.

Gunnar probably means to not go head hunting and let the Ko come to him.

But if he paces himself he's gonna leave himself even more open to Diaz's boxing. No way he wins a 5 round decision against Diaz.

It's KO or nothing.

Conor just needs to keep the pressure and not give Nate the time to get his game going...Nate is at his best when he is the one moving forward or when its a stand n bang fight...he is at his worst when he is forced to back peddle.

Tought fight to call but I hope Conor wins.

He gets beat by wrestlers who can hold him down. That's the best tactic to beat either of the Diaz Bros.

No one thinks that Diaz is invincible, it's just that everyone knows that Conor can't do that.

He can win a 5 rd decision, if he wins the first 3...which would be a shit decision because we all expect Diaz to turn it on in the 4th and 5th it if goes that far.

But I agree...he cannot stand back and allow Diaz to dictate the striking he has to press forward....if he stand backs...its letting Diaz do what he does best and it will end up worse than the first fight.

You can't go hunting for a KO. That's what Mac did last time and he is smart enough to realize that. Win or lose expect a more varied attack including leg kicks and body shots. There's more than one way to skin a cat.

When you hit as hard as McGregor you can break down just about anybody without starching them. I don't think Conor can pace for 5 rounds, but I also don't think Diaz (even as durable as he is) can take that punishment for 5 rounds. His body just wouldn't allow it.

The problem here is that you can't take your time with Nate Diaz, he's going to be coming after you the whole time. There will be no sitting back picking shots. He'll be forced to fight at an uncomfortable pace.

Conor is who he is because he fights the way he does. You can't completely reinvent yourself, and expect to be just as good and effective.

He has one way he fights, and that's how he'll fight.
