This guy to me is the best prospect in the UFC incredible grappling and a great debut. How do the rest of you think he will do in the new year?
i can see him challenging for the title in another year or two. i'd like to see how he'd do against a maia or a fitch.
His striking is good his bjj excellent and his wrestling is pretty good. He's a beast but still has a lot of room to grow. He would improve leaps and bounds at Tristar but there's already enough high level WWs tied up there.
I think he has a bright future. He has the best kind of mindset IMO, its that fedor kind of mindset. Just pure fighting warrior type of mind where they perform their best because they are not controlled by fear itself. They live in the moment, in a zen type of way, and just react from their instinct instead of thought so things just flow faster. However, that 170 division is just becoming so stacked. Rory, Hendricks and others are growing so fast. We will see in time who the best prospect is. I am wondering when Gunnar fights next?...I have been googling it....ok,nevermind... just found it...he fights Justin Edwards with an 8 - 2 record....i like how the UFC tries to build their fighters
Good thread. His grappling looked phenomenal against an out-of-shape, late-notice Damarques Johnson. It'd be good to see him up against a slightly tougher guy next. He's definitely a good prospect.
Depends on how he handles this beating he is about to take from Edwards. Some people come back better after their losses and others don't come back.
Yeah, that seems fair. I'd like to see him fight a good wrestler. I loved watching Maia cleaving through great wrestlers with his BJJ at 185, I'd like to see someone else with good BJJ do the same.
huh? edwards hasn't exactly been setting the world on fire. i have confidence in nelson being able to win that bout.
Lulz. Gunnar is going to whoop that ass. Justin Edwards is a exciting guy to watch, but he is outmatched against Gunnar.
I get the feeling Gunnar is gonna drop to lightweight in the future he seems very small for welterweight, but he is an amazing prospect with a bright future still
