Below is the article, and I saw (a quite disturbing) video on Twitter but I won't post it here, you can easily find it if that's your thing.

What happened to NYC? I was there around 2008 and had the best time ever. I walked around at all possible hours and never even felt uncomfortable let alone in danger. From what I read NYC became a shit hole...such a shame, I loved it when I was there.

How hasn't this received worldwide news coverage? I saw a video on Twitter last night of him shooting an 87yr old man in the back, it was fucking harrowing, you could see the blood just spread across his chest. How the fuck isn't this the main news story in both America and elsewhere?

Because stories like this happen six times every day in the best country on earth! This is third page news on a slow day.

Yup. Let’s quickly send thoughts, prayers, and platitudes—we’re dreadfully sorry that there’s nothing at all that can be done about this, so best to just throw up our hands. Something something mental health, something something need more guns.
On to the next.

We have a cop and trans mega thread why not a shooting mega thread? Theyre all exactly the same

Read about this first on Yahoo.com. https://www.yahoo.com/news/1-dead-3-injured-gunman-232900639.html

No picture of the guy and the article goes out of its way to point out that this wasn't a race based attack. Safe to assume the shooter wasn't a white guy and this story will disappear. RIP to the victims. Such a tragic loss of life. One was 86 years old, mother of God. You live your whole life against all odds and wind up randomly getting killed by some thug on a scooter? I feel bad for the families.

I was of course being facetious. But it has become so routine and expected that people are reacting indifferently.

Guns and increasing mental health problems is a helluva combo to have to deal with.

He's black, I saw the video online last night. He literally drives past some 87yr old fella strolling down the sidewalk and pops him in the back, you see the blood fan out across the bloke's white shirt from the front as he stumbles about clearly not knowing what has happened to him. It made me feel physically sick. There's other pics and stills of him too - black guy, bit of a small afro, gun in hand, not even covering his face. Cunt. Kill him.

Facetious or not, I thought your post was accurate. This has become routine, and people barely notice anymore. A cursory “damn that’s really sad,” followed by complete inaction is pretty much par for the course.

Why not take those 3 topics, add a thread about recent SCOTUS decisions, and merge them all into one “We’re In the Last Days of America” enormo-thread?

Guns and ammos
No I mean thoughts and prayers. Stupid fingers, they got a mind of their own

Whenever someone that old dies I can't help but look at their age and think, this person was born during the Great Depression, probably saw headlines of Nazi Germany's defeat as a young child, lived through the rise and fall of the Soviet Union, the rise of China, etc. All to be ultimately killed by some thug.

I don’t think it’s quite that serious. Even if the currently trajectory holds I would think it’ll be decades before either dissolution of the Union or we are weak enough for another power to take a legitimate shot.

All of this fear mongering and culture war trash is distracting us from actual problems such as:

-We have a drastically disproportionate amount of people retiring Vs people joining the construction industry at every level. From engineers to architects to the guys on the ground. So in the ten years or sooner you’ll begin to see
1: a dramatic decrease in average build quality, longer build times due to being unfamiliar with code building practices.
2: Those organizations that can provide quality on schedule will increase their costs to basically whatever they please, pushing out anyone developing or remodeling with anything less than almost endless cash flow.

This is a very serious problem that will have an impact on the whole industry and the country at large that no body really seems to be trying to get in front of.

You can buy all the land you want but you may not be able to afford to develop it, or a two year project timeline is now a six year timeline.

Maintenance and upkeep. We overlooked it on a macro level, now we’re about to face dire consequences as a result.

Want to bet this is not thua shitheads first violent actions.

So it comes down to a mental health problem which no one wants to do what needs to be done to help it.

The Republicans should support financing the hospitals and staff.

The democrats don't want to support involuntary commitment for people that are dangerous.

Well... It's illegal to have handgun in NY... especially with an extended clip... so that's double illegal I guess

And you don't think this guy is a mental case?

Doesn't NYC have some of the strictest gun laws in the country?

I bet taking registered weapons away from the law abiding public would have stopped this pointless loss of life.

Condolences to the victims.
