(sorry I can't spell gioultine) Hey guys new to BJJ and rolling with people. Is it acceptable to guiltione someone when your just grappling with someone in class? My impression is that you just have them in the headlock and then pull the neck real hard. Seems to me that that would hurt real bad. Should I not do this when praciticing?

LOL! no the guillotine is a choke it doesnt hurt your neck it prevents you from breathing, if you don't know how to do it and your really new I'd wait until you've been taught it before you go around neck cranking people, but yes once you know the proper technique and your sure you can do it without hurting anybody it is acceptable to use a submission move while grappling, well at my club its expecting for someone to submit the other

Ask someone (preferably your instructor) to show you it properly.

If you don't know how to use it, then don't use it....
and never do a submission by "pulling real hard".
secure it and apply pressure SLOWLY.
Otherwise there is going to be injury.

If your jumping to guard after getting the choke just be careful not to spike them, aside from that, it is all fair game.

Don't even bother bro. And remember the choke is not on the windpipe. So please don't pull like a moron on someone's throat.

The clear answer being --- HELL NO!!! --- don't just yank on the guy's neck. It's a much more subtle technique than that. You lift the blade of the wrist and forearm upward as if you were cutting his head off at the neck rather than stretching his spinal cord... For heaven's sake, son, please train with a legitimate instructor. It's worth the cost and the benefits are unimaginable.

the guillotine isnt an airway choke its a blood choke it prevbents oxygen and blood to get to the brain and if you dont tap in 6-8 seconds youll be out, if it was an airway choke you could be in it for a minute or so

We don't allow guillotines at our club and they are also illegal at all the tournaments i have ever attended. I thought this was standard practice? Obviously not....

that's why it's banned in most tourney's here, because it's so easy to turn it into a crank. At the last comp I entered you weren't even allowed to pull down the head to finish a triangle, because it can crank the neck.
    Do I agree with this?
    No. No I don't.
But I have a really dodgy neck so it works in my favour.
    :p

If the guy doing the guillotine does not get his arm deep enuf, it may be possible to tug or neck crank your own chin to his arm as hard as possible. Low % but still possible coz it does hurt, ie, the guy doing guillotine may tap from your sharp chin.

What are you talking about? What do you mean by tug or neck crank your own chin to his arm?

Are you saying that if I apply a guillotine and my opponent defenses by tucking his chin into my arm, I, the person applying the guillotine, will tap?!?

    No.

    1) If my opponent
