GSP was finished twice in his prime, by Hughes and Serra. Not sure which was worse, being finished is being finished. But he was long out of his prime by the time he fought Hendricks, he never recovered from his knee injury and should have retired at that point. Knee injuries have stopped way better athletes than GSP at the same age (Bobby Orr in hockey, Jim Brown in football for example). It was kind of unrealistic of GSP to think he could still be the same fighter after destroying his knee when guys like Orr and Brown couldn't.

Maybe that optimism comes with being an athlete, but his coaches should have told him that he'd never be the same (though of course that would cancel their meal ticket).

If he lost reach but his body was still a size that light heavyweight would be the class he remains at then he would not do so well. Is this even worth discussing anymore? Yeah, Jones would never win without his reach advantage and GSP never tapped to strikes from a 5'6" LW.
