This fight is what proved GSP to be mentally tough and wouldn't crack under pressure again.
It should be higher up on his resume as the GOAT. Very few fighters can claim they beat someone on a 16-fight streak.
Prime Fitch would mop the floor with Usman.
Great win and a great but very one sided fight.
this win alone is better than any of usman's title defenses despite Usman getting more finishes.
Gsp was able to show he was flat out better everywhere. Dominated every aspect, wrestling, striking, BJJ. Everything.
Usman finishes him within 3.
Usman's power is something serious. GSP was able to put fitch down.
Matt Hughes putting an end to a 7-fight win streak.
Matt Serra putting an end to a 6-fight win streak.
Johny Hendricks putting an end to a champ's career at welterweight, forcing him to retire from the division instead of rematching.
Remember when Fitch said he broke GSP because GSP realized he couldn’t finish him? Lol
So, you're not a fan?
Usman has a loss to someone without a wiki page. If you lose to a complete nobody you can never be a great.
I know you're partially trolling, but that Hendricks take is so disingenuous, I hope you don't seriously believe that
Nice rewriting of history you tried there, but everybody knows who's hand was raised at the end of the fight.
Keep crying 8 years later.
What's funny is is that GSP retired as the ww goat after that fight, came back 4 years later and took the middleweight belt while Johnny Hendricks would go on to become a fat bum with an overhand who couldn't win a fight to save his life. GSP took Johnny's soul
GSP had several opportunities to finish the fight but Fitch was just too darn tough.
GSP is an all-time great. He was an exciting fighter up through 2009, but then he became a decisionator. Matt Serra was a journeyman (he was on the special season of TUF explicitly for journeymen), so losing to him is a big blemish in the GOAT discussion.
It is good that GSP won the rematch with Serra convincingly, but Serra won the first fight convincingly, so that just evened the score with a journeyman.
Speaking of rematches, after the split decision with Hendricks, GSP ran away from the division instead of giving Hendricks a well-deserved rematch. Both Hughes and Serra gave GSP rematches when they finished him. So for GSP not to give Hendricks a rematch after a highly debated decision was hypocritical and also hurts him in the GOAT conversation.
I remember being shocked by how Fitch would barely try to get the fight to the ground, like he knew he couldnt. And prime Fitch was an absolute animal who would get everybody down, everybody.
Thats how good GSP really was. One of his best wins, for sure.
He already fought Prime Jon Fitch and broke his jaw
GSP hat Fitch hurt bad so many times. Fitch toughed it out.
