Technical, accurate karate is in...again.

Scoggins and Wonderboy schooling grinders when a couple of years back, this fancy moves would have put them in the mat really quick. Shows you how the sport evolved by looking back.

I am going to sign up to a kung fu school tomorrow based on tonight

Marital arts are fucking awesome.

Yes love watching skilled action beat boring grinders.

This forum has been sitting on TMA since it's inception and it's great to see what happening now.

We got guys that grew up in TMA's learning tdd and bjj as they got older. But because they grew up point fighting their striking is so fast and accurate the "MT wrestle guys "can't handle it. World class sport karate or Te Kwon do are gonna own shit!

This is what I've enjoyed about MMA so much. Watching it evolve. I've watched the short lived BJJ era, the roided wrestler GnP era, the strikers who learned to sprawl era, the cardio era, the complete mixed martial artist era, back to the wrestler era, and now it's leaning back more toward the strikers. And the reason it's gotten that way is because guys are learning how to deal with MMA style wrestling. It's similar to how guys learned how to defend against BJJ. So what will happen is that more guys are going to need to catch up in the striking department or they're going to get left behind.

Must've been all the PEDs that enabled the grapple fuck. Glad to see fighting moving on.

I kinda had a feeling hendricks was gonna lose when he talked about wanting to be stronger physically. Like come on, this is the best of the best, fights are won on ability and skill. Strength can get you far, but hendricks was already a pretty strong WW, i dont see why he spent so much time and effort into getting stronger. He should have been working on striking skills. I dont understand why guys arent adding kicks to their arsenal. Everyone who is a good champ has good kicks, think about it.

Werdum throws front kicks.
Jones throws them
Rockhold has powerful kicks
Robbie has fast powerful kicks
RDJ has decent kicks
Conor lots of kicks
Cruz is the only one i see that doesnt throw much kicks
MM has lots of kicks.

Why do guys like hendricks etc not even attempt to add anything to their game.

Fabricio is a BJJ first, MT second champ
Jon Jones is a wrestler, though he has diverse striking. But he embraces the grind.
DC is definitely a grinder
Luke has decent stand up, but is best on the ground.
Robbie is a boxer/wrestler
RDA is a boxer/wrestler grinder
Conor is stand up
Dominick is stand up.

Basically most of the UFC champs have a strong wrestling base, and decent striking. I would only place Dominick, Conor, and Robbie as good to great striking. So no, grinders are not done, they are still a very legitimate threat in MMA.

I doubt it. But if they do, it would only be for a little while. Just like every style, they get figured out. BJJ got figured out by wrestlers. Strikers figured out how to sprawl. Soon enough, guys are going to learn how to deal with styles like Thompson's. Machida got solved. Pettis got solved. Thompson got solved too. He just evolved and improved. And not every sport karate or TKD guy is going to have the ability to learn defensive wrestling as well as Wonderboy.

Completely agree, I dont understand why wrestlers never add kicks to their game. Even the basic ones.

You know, you guys are a bit too quick to draw
All that just because Thompson was able to beat Hendricks? Because outside of that, grinders and KO artists alike, MMA always had room for everyone.

Unless your GSP the GOAT

What up, Ninja, you've been missing from the JJ thread when I check in.
Hey, hun. :) Took a break due to a ... Shift in the thread dynamic. :p

I'll be back eventually once TUF is closer to airing. JJ is my girl so I can't stay away too long. ;-)

That's understandable. I thought some shit went down since it seemed real quiet in there but I can't really keep up with every page.
