Going into the 5th round.
That tells you everything you need to know.
He said that because he doesn't know what octagon control is.
What he should be doing is looking to use his wrestling to set up his strongest weapon, ground and pound, all the time. It's a mystery to me why he stands 95% of the time now.
Because he is perfectly capable of controlling the fight there... and by "controlling", I mean getting outstruck and still getting the win.
Greg jackson keeping his fighter motivated for the last round whereas reyes coaches were probably telling him hes got it in the bag
No he didnt, he said "we need this round" more than once
They knew it was 2-2. Jones won 3-5 like the gameplan
they literally said he needs a finish
Did you not watch the fight? Jone was attempting takedowns and got no control with them...
He said it might come down to this round..
He tried here and there as a secondary option. If it was his main strategy Reyes would have been more hesitant to open up and even more tired from defending them, which could have led to a finish.
Who is Greg Jones?
Unsuccessfully shooting for takedowns gasses you out. Don't just take my word for it, check out the strategy that the GOAT, Jones, uses. There is a reason for it. It's not like all these wrestler in MMA lose their minds and fall in love with their hands like Rogan thinks. It's because to be a champion level fighter you need to make sure that you don't run out of gas.
Did yall not see Jon's face when they raised his hands?
Did yall not hear his awful, shaky explanation as to why he deserved to win? Jon lost that fought.
Get some fans~ Greg Jones Jackson-James
His córner was desperate since the 2nd rd. They implored the td but yonny boy couldnt deliver on a gassed opponent.
He is an MMA genius apparently.
Timestamped for those of you who'd rather here Greg's words for yourself.
Greg did say
"take over and finish him."
He also says
"It may come down to this round." referring to the 5th round.
So my interpretation was Greg believes the fight is close. He is telling Jon he needs to win the fifth round or finish Reyes so it doesn't have to go to the judges because it could go either way.
They knew Jones was down by any logical metric.
Octagon control only matters if the striking is even which it was not in rounds 1, 2 and 3. Reyes hit him a lot more. Learn the scoring criteria.
Octagon control is the only thing that matters, at least when Jones is fighting. If his opponent manages to land a hundred strikes while backpedaling, whereas Jones lands no strike whatsoever - he still wins... and rightly so, I might add. Backpedaling is a sign of fear, and who was more shook is all that counts in real life.
