I'd take off U2 and Radiohead before them. ;)

Great bands, but not straight rock & roll. The Clash, Deep Purple, and Nirvana have no business here.

Highly subjective of course, but personally I wouldn't even call them great bands.

Sabbath & Metallica are great. But they belong in a discussion of Heavy Metal. Not greatest Rock band.

I guess heavy metal could be considered a sub-genre of rock. I actually thought you were referring to U2 and Radiohead and not Black Sabbath and Metallica. I'd rate the latter higher than the former.

Yeah, that's why I clarified. Sure, there's a ton of sub-genres. At this point though Metal has sort of staked its own claim. It's not atrocious to have Sabbath up there, but they have practically nothing in common with most of that list. Just my opinion.

It's because psychologically, people know that he needs all the leeway and praise he can possibly get so awfully badly. If you talk him up you are allowed to deduct it from your yearly taxes

I said Rush, but "Greatest Rock Band" belongs to no one.

    So many bands offer greatness.

Pretty much, it's so damn subjective.

Based on taste, I'd take the Doors or Jimi Hendrix Experience out of all of them.... hell, Pearl Jam has been my favorite band for 15 years, so I'd be inclined to take them over anyone else.

Oh look, people splitting hairs over music genres. I didn't expect that!

I don't consider The Beatles "rock" per se, but I do consider them the greatest band of all time. Not that they're necessarily my favorites as such, but the stuff they put out in such a short time, and the way they evolved musicwise and the influence they had, is imo unparralelled.

Went with Acdc. I like those guys and Sabbath equally but Angus and co are just more hard rock. Sabbath for me are their own genre. Some people call them metal and others call them rock but I think they're the bridge in between. GnR should be up there and I love Metallica but they would be picked if it was metal. Can't beat their 80's shit.

Awesome brother. I have pit tickets for Oct 18th. They are the last out of my top 5 bands I haven't seen. Its a bucketlist thing. Bought an awesome Cliff shirt for the event.

VOL 4 and Saboatge are almost unbeatable. What a solid album. Wheels of Confusion, Supernaut, Tomarrows Dream and Under the Sun are great tracks too. What a great fucking record. Most people only know what's on Paranoid because that's all the radio played. Sabbath kept getting better but the masses weren't exposed to 80 percent of their stuff unlike Zeppelin.

Yeah. The heavy riffs like Iron Man are what made Sabbath popular, but when you really dig deep on some of their albums, you will find some incredible rock n roll. The Ozzy years of Sabbath was ground breaking shit like nothing else.
