Probably there is a reason for this. Partying too much could be a reason. I have heard something similar about Erol Zimmerman. I know him as a very patient fighter, who was waiting the perfect moment. he had very good defense.

And I guess he still is. But nonetheless he was my favorite fighter watching K1 as a kid. Lot's of shed potential.
