Greatest HW In UFC History

JDS was already the UFC HW goat when he took the title from Cain.
He has had the toughest run to title ever in the UFC, in terms of opponents. His first fight was fucking Werdum.
The only other guy that has faced tougher opponents than JDS is Jon Jones.

Who gives a flying fuck about title defenses?
Would Anderson Silva defending his title 10 times against an opponent like Dongi Yang be equally great as Jon Jones defending his title 5 times against opponents like Machida.
No it would fucking not.

This.

You need to be well-rounded otherwise you can't become a champ today. You could do that in Pride, which cro cop benefitted from. Mention a current champ who is not well-rounded?

cro cop/jds are similar, both got tapped out, though jds to a mediocre fighter.. cro cop to an elite fighter :)

both had good striking, tdd.. how is jds more evolved? we haven't seen it..

pride champs were well rounded..

JDS if he beats Cain again.

I can see how it is debatable right now. For sure.

But if he defeats Cain again especially in dominant fashion i don't see how you could debate it. But Reem will most likely be waiting.

and timmeh has been fighting a lot longer, 25 more fights than jds..

yes we will see next week.

Was talking about Randy in this post. But to your point he was 24-4 when he left the ufc. 9-4 in the ufc. Not a whole lot of difference.

Jds by tko in the 2nd or 3rd against Cain.

Randy for sure.

Its way too early for JDS with only 2title fights.

Everybody can get caught, even high level grapplers ( though nog is elite).

JDS is a black belt he has excellent TDD and his striking is arguably some of the best in the entire company.

Timmeh! The guys he beat at the time were big names for the time. The standards have been raised, but wins over Arlovski, Rodriguez, Cabbage, Gan McGeeand Monson were of high value. JDS is up there as well -- tough to say...

so was cro cop.

he's a bjj bb but we haven't seen it..

i have a hard time calling JDS the best of all time till he has a couple more defenses.

his body of work is truly amazing but its your title belts you get to take home that make you truly the greatest.

JDS.

Hopefully Cain eventually takes the crown, and the belt this weekend.

Im sorry what point are you making? You said you can't be champ today without being well rounded, yet JDS is a dominant champ using just his striking and TDD. He has not needed to use his BJJ, even if its the best in the world. Those are the exact same skills crocop used, except he was beaten by a more well rounded champ in the title fight.

exactly lol..

Did Tim really accomplish more than JDS though? I feel like he has a comparable if not better record already, even if you take Tim at the peak of his career.

Well Tim fought everyone they had for him. You have to go by time frame sometimes. Doesn't seem right to say a guy didn't accomplish as much simply because it was impossible to... He was still sitting there for years at the top in a huge MMA org. Maybe he would have evolved like everyone else had it been the same timeframe.

but yeah they kept JDS from a title shot for a long time and his opponents were better. Although remember, JDS still has a long list of worthy dudes to fight at hw. Even if some have lost their last fight theres a lot of good matchups. Even the guys he's better than on paper like Barry, Bigfoot, Cormier, ect are dangerous as hell. Even Hendo. HW is supposed to be the weight class with the biggest variance because of the one punch KO power so setting streaks at HW is a huge accomplishment.

Title fights are massive pressure and your opponent will train their hardest for them. they are 5 rounds. and it's much more likely you'll be fighting a guy who deserves to fight you.

Whoever posted this poll does not have a clue about MMA.
How do you omit the actual G.O.A.T. HW Fedor? His record speaks for itself.
How do you put Lesnar and Mir in a list of the G.O.A.T. This proves you don't know a thing about MMA fighters!
Stop being stupid and go watch WWE will you!

My apologies for some of the last comment. Didn't realise UFC only which Fedor was not a part of!
However Lesnar was a joke! How could he be in the consideration?

As I posed to another sherdogger, so big Tim's victory over monson is more impressive than jds win over werdum or carwin individually because the title was involved?
