Grant won't be fighting Pettis next

theyre either going to pull melendez from the sanchez fight or josh thomson.

It's definitely one of those two options, and I think the better one would be to pull Melendez and have Thomson fight Diego if he can. Thomson has been out too long already and is clamoring for a fight, but he doesn't have a title challenger resume by any means. He's on a 1-fight win streak, with victories in a whole 2 of 4. Meanwhile, Melendez has technically won 7 of 8, with 2 of those losses against Thomson, and arguably he deserves to be unbeaten in the last 8, with that Bendo fight a 50/50. Thomson might be a new man with improved knee health, but his resume is what it is. He should have to prove it with at least another big win, or two solid ones even.

Josh Thomson maybe? Healy/Khabib winner if they are desperate.

really not sure where they go with a replacement

Aldo - nursing injury
Benson - too soon for a decisive loss, plus been beaten twice
Melendez - could be fine, one bounce back win would have been preferable
Maynard - no sense just got KO'd
Thomson - after Melendez might be most worthy challenger though his win over Diaz was quite a while ago
Diaz, just got KO'd
Healey vs Khabib winner could work if they came out injury free
Dos Anjos -is on nice streak but has zero star power

all in all they may be better off pushing it back as Melendez-Sanchez and Healy-Khabib winners both will have an actual claim for a title shot with a win

buuuuut if they must pull someone, make Melendez vs Pettis and fill his spot with a Thomson-Sanchez

Dec 14th is a FOX card. Unless they are planning on giving Pettis a different date (which it doesn't sound like) it will be Thomson imo.

No way they are putting Pettis/Aldo on free TV.

If Melendez beats Diego he could immediately jump into another camp. He'll already be in shape (unless it's a war or he gets injured) and would have time for another camp.

That would be risky though. I'd assume they'll want to announce it before then to sell tickets.

Thomson sounds like the best bet.

It has to be Josh Thomson, right? He's the only guy that makes sense right now if you look at the top ten. Aldo would make sense too but Dana didn't seem hot on that idea. It has to be one of them though.

This sounds more safe as Gil ain't made waves as of yet ( in my opinion he beat Bendo) better fighter than Josh but in FAIRNESS listen UFC Pettis has to fight Grant:eek:

I like the way you think.

Maybe they could just leave the spot open until October 20th, assuming Gilbert will wreck Diego, and then slide Melendez in there after the token win so he's not getting a title shot off a "loss".

They're fine with promoting Pettis vs. for a while. Fans would know the fight had Pettis in it. What else would they need?

RDA is more worthy than Josh Thompson, cut it out.
