This dude doesn't even pretend he's not all about rules for thee and not for me. Is it really that hard to follow the rules you make?

Newsom faces backlash after attending French Laundry dinner party

    By JEREMY B. WHITE

    11/13/2020 03:21 PM EST

OAKLAND, Calif. — Gov. Gavin Newsom said Friday he should not have attended a fancy dinner party honoring a top political adviser, which occurred during California's coronavirus surge and just as the governor is trying to discourage households from gathering for the holidays.

The Democratic governor, First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom and people from several other households gathered outside this month at The French Laundry to celebrate the 50th birthday of lobbyist Jason Kinney, a longtime friend. The dinner at one of the world's most exclusive restaurants was first reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.

While Newsom’s office said the outdoor meal hewed to protocols, the governor conceded that he erred in joining the gathering.

"While the First Partner and I followed the restaurant’s health protocols and took safety precautions, I should have modeled better behavior and not joined the dinner," Newsom said in a statement.

Kinney is a partner at lobbying firm Axiom Advisors, a Sacramento powerhouse that has a long list of clients ranging from Facebook to dialysis companies DaVita and Fresenius. He has been a longtime political adviser to Newsom.

Axiom spokesperson Molly Weedn defended the 12-person dinner as a “small, intimate” gathering that broke no rules.

“The restaurant was open for normal dining, consistent with state and county health guidance,” Weedn said in a statement. “All of the restaurant safety protocols were adhered to – and the guests followed those protocols.”

Napa County, like the state overall, says that gatherings of more than three households are prohibited. However, that guideline may only apply to gatherings in private residences. Restaurants operate in a gray area and do not explicitly have a ban on more than three households, according to the last guidance California released in July.

The news came less than two hours after Newsom strongly discouraged residents from traveling for the holidays or bringing together multiple households for Thanksgiving.

Regardless of the governor’s assertion that the meal abided by coronavirus restrictions, he faced an immediate backlash on social media over his decision to partake in an event at an opulent, multiple Michelin-starred restaurant as businesses around the state reel from the pandemic and Californians chafe under social limitations. Some drew a connection to the governor sending his four children to private school classrooms while most of the state's public school students continue to do remote learning, as POLITICO reported last month.

Multiple counties in California have receded into more-restrictive tiers this month as cases, infection rates and hospitalization numbers rise. More than half of the state's 40 million residents now live in a county under California's strictest purple-tier rules. Additional counties are likely to face the same restrictions next week as case counts rise across the state.

Newsom has regularly implored Californians to remain vigilant by wearing masks, avoiding mixing with other households and practicing social distancing, repeating a mantra that individual behavior can make a difference.

“I am concerned truthfully that we may get overexuberant," Newsom said this week of progress toward vaccine, exhorting Californians to not "let your guard down."

    Fuck him

You want people to actually follow some of the sensible things to slow down covid? Lead by example you twat

Don’t bitch now when people gather with their families for thanksgiving, even if it is best to avoid outside of very small things this year.

How stupid to give the anti-maskers this type of ammunition to use against you?

    No surprise.

Rules only ever seem to apply to the plebs. Even worse, at this point the elites don't seem at all concerned about concealing their hypocrisy.

    I'm with ya dude.

It would really make me happy if these people would show some consistency and shared sacrifice

Between you can't see your family but its ok to burn a city or celebrate trumps loss .... to them telling us one thing and getting caught doing the opposite it makes it really hard to get people to take this seriously

They don’t need to conceal it because the fools do whatever they are told and are happy to defend their masters. This is just like when Cuomo went to Georgia on vacation but did not quarantine when he went back up to New York. The rules do not apply to them.

All these politicians are do what I say and not what I do. Except Trump lol. His lack of mask wearing is one of the few honest things about him.

You wouldn't let your dog eat at the dinner table, and you wouldn't eat off the floor like your dog, so why should these gods among men have to live like you peasants?

Literally not 1 of them has followed the same restrictions they impose on you.

    - Trudeau said no easter travel for you bums, then left the next day for his easter cabin.

    - No gym for you peons while Deblasio takes a motorcade to the gym. Also give up your guns and defund the police, while he outright said he's too important to give up his armed security.

    - Cuomo has been photographed all over the place with no mask, and his brother, the weight lifter, was picking fights with senior citizens in the hamptons while he claimed to be infected.

    - Gretchen Whitmer locked the whole state down while her husband drove up to take the boat out.

    - Mayor of Chicago allowed riots on your street, then blocked off her own street. Made an ad mocking the idea that anybody would get their hair cut, then shows up 2 days later with a haircut and said "my hygiene is important".

    - Governor of Illinois' wife went on several out of state vacations while nobody else was allowed to, then yelled at the reporter for asking him about it.

    - Like half the "defund the police" city council members had taxpayers pay for private security for themselves.

    - Nancy Antoinette was able to pry herself away from her ice cream freezer long enough to wander around a salon with no mask, then demanded an apology from the salon for having security footage.

    - Of course Newsom isn't going to be the lone democrat who actually abides by his own mandates.

This isn't even the first terribly hypocritical thing Newsom has done. He literally closed every grape farm winery but his own to the public.
