Got my blue belt tonight. Was supposed to test for it like a year ago but my instructor's been a purple belt and without a black belt instructor since around that time. He had been training with different local black belts until this month. He picked one this month and he got his brown belt last week (extremely overdue) and promoted three of us to blue belt tonight. Feel weird because I was going to test for it so long ago, but I'm glad I can at least feel like I am completely deserving of the belt.

Congrats.

I thought that I was going to be in the same boat, but thankfully the black belts that my instructors affiliate with will promote on our teacher's behalf (if necessary). However, it is not likely to even come to that, since our instructors are progressing faster than we are. So, they'll always be ahead enough to promote us.

You're in good shape for your purple belt though...because your instructor should be a brown belt for a shorter period of time that it typically takes to go from blue to purple (around 2 to three years). From brown to black is typically a year or two.

Forgot to mentioned another one of the factors that delayed everything so long, I only trained no-gi for the first entire year I was training. Only picked up the gi after I wanted to start training to get promoted. Love the gi training now, though.

congrats, at least you know you can compete in the blue division right off the bat as well

Congratulations, seems like you thoroughly earned it.

Well done man. It will be nice to know you're thoroughly deserving of it, rather having a bout of the doubts upon recieving it (Well I did, so I assumed most people are the same?)

so u had been entering comps at whitebelt ? for 3 years?

Nah, I haven't competed in over a year, around the time I was supposed to test for blue.

Congrats for sure.

I always remember that everyone who tries jiu jitsu is a white belt. The blue belt is the first one that you actually earn on the mat.

Nice to hear that you're enjoying your time in the gi!

grats, and feel proud...you deserve it.
