Finally boosted myself a fucking huge tyre. It's a proper JCB thing, about 5ft in diameter, so I should be able to have some real fun with it. Aside from flipping it and sledge training, are there any other workouts? I've seen some websites in the past but I never bookmarked them. Links?

throw people in the middle of it and roll them down the hill??

Okay, more a conditionning/Muay Thai one this...depending on size, put one foot on one side and one on opposite side. Then jump and switch feet so they reverse then just keep repeating..over and over...bouncing up and down. From M/T days that one.

Obviously if it is too big, don't do it....

Flipping, dragging, and sledge hammer.

Setting a timer say 5 or 10 minutes. Record the number of flips and then try to beat it next time you flip the tyre (tire).

Nice suggestions. I'm gonna get in touch with my inner simian and brutalise that tyre!

Also, I found it's big enough to be lifted like a trap bar. I'll need to drill some grips near the inside rim first though.

I always thought you would take the rim out, for safety reasons...?

No chance. There is a steel band in there but it's fully encased in rubber and nylon to about an inch in thickness. I did manage to punch through just to the outside of it with the dril though, so now the tyre can be used for trap bar deadlifts, possibly some kind of overhead lift, and I can get a firm grip for dragging.

Where did you go to get a big tyre like that? i'd love to get one, but have no idea where to look

I nicked it from an area of waste land near my local park. Blind luck that I spotted it. There's been landscaping going on there for years, so I suppose it had just been discarded from a nearby construction site.

There was recent thread about where to get tyres in the UK...

Holy shit... now that was a workout. Six flips to the end of the garden, jump into the middle of the tyre and carry it back to the start, repeat. The tyre's big enough to work pretty much every muscle, pulling it up off the floor then pushing it over. Decent grip work too. And I haven't even used the sledge on it yet. Man, am I destroyed. Good fucking stuff!

fill it with water

no one ever elaborated on this tech. I wonder how it would work. My bad for zombieing this thread, but I was searching for hammer uses...

Sounds like some good stuff so far.

IMO some of this unique object workout stuff has got to be labor inspired, as in, what would you do with that tire if you were doing something for work (not a workout)?

Chances are if your tractor had a flat tire you'd have to get the tire to your tractor, rather than your tractor to the tire...i.e., you can't operate a tractor that has a flat tire, but you can get a tire to the tractor.

So you've got to roll the tire to the tractor. Just for the sake of a good workout, let's say the tractor is up at the top of a hill.

So, roll the tire up a steep, long hill. Then for shits and giggles, roll it back down. Rolling it up the hill means pushing it; back down means holding the tire back so it doesn't get away from you. Do it with intensity and do as many reps as it takes to just about collapse from exhaustion.

Also, you may try setting up a bit of an obstacle course. Start at one end and do whatever it takes to get the tire through the course as quickly as possible. Make it difficult and almost impossible. :icon_chee

Pound for pound though, I can't imagine beating flipping the thing end over end.

Uphill roll? I'm not sure how feasible this is, but rolling a tire that big up a hill should be a fucker of a workout.

Did you get a tire?!?!?!?

No, I've got a tyre, and using it caused me to tire.
