The deal, in an all-cash offer, is expected to be announced imminently, sources said. If completed the acquisition would be the most significant in the history of YouTube, which Google acquired in 2006 for $1.65 billion. The impending acquisition comes after longtime Google ad exec Susan Wojcicki was named CEO of YouTube earlier this year.

Reps for YouTube and Twitch declined to comment.

San Francisco-based Twitch lets users upload and watch free, live gameplay videos that can be streamed from Microsoft Xbox and PlayStation 4 consoles. The company claims to have more than 45 million monthly users, with more than 1 million members who upload videos each month. It also has deals to distribute shows from partners including CBS Interactive

Will be interesting to see if it is actually allowed to complete the deal.

Wow that's actually big .
Thanks TS .
Expect sony and Ms to go through new T&C's once current contracts expire.

I don't see why regulators would stop such a deal? I don't see any significant interest to enter this space by anyone else right now. Youtube seems like a natural fit for Twitch given the ever expanding need of computing power both seem to need. I am surprised that Google OK'd this deal but Twitch has already had good relationships with Sony and Microsoft it seems? A few months ago Google was complaining that Youtube was a drag on their profits but that it was very key to their business. Gaming could enter 3D streaming virtual space with products like the Oculus and could really be a boost for twitch and Facebook.

If i was an owner of Twitch, i'd be crying tears of joy right now

I would also put down payment on a Lamborghini Aventador and a huge ass 3 story mansion

Great, youtube updates are fucking garbage

All of these massive corporations consolidating technology isn't good.

Twitch and youtube are pretty shitty versions of the services they offer, just large.

I'll be surprised if it makes that money back

BAD bad news. Just a rumor right now but if it's true I'll be sad.

Twitch is like the 4th most popular website on the internet, it will easily make the money back.

Wow...From Justin.tv to that.

Quite the turn around (money wise) for Twitch owners. Good for them.
