Google surpasses Apple as world's most valuable tech company

Saw this on Cnet earlier today, figured I'd post it here.

First it was Microsoft - monopolizing, anti-competitive Microsoft, that was the most valuable tech company in the world. Then it was Apple, patent law abusing, grossly overpriced sub-par hardware Apple brainwashing people into thinking that two year old hardware was two years ahead of its time. Now we've got Google, sliding its tendrils into every element of your life from your e-mails to your phone to your bloody thermostat and selling information about your it to the highest bidder.

Can a tech company become the world's most valuable without having the general profile of a potential Bond villain?

the magic and innovation that they used to pioneer is no more

I swear the iPhone has not changed since the first Android phone

Am I the only one that thinks Google is bloody evil and may already be run by Skynet?

Why? I've always liked Google. I prefer firefox to chrome though

 

I thought it already was. Google has far more diversity in their endeavors than Apple does.

 

I like Google as pool of services but any company whose primary profit model is mining their users for information though leaves me worried about it being precedent setting for the future of computing. Their services are "free" because you are the product and the more ways they get access to where you go, what you look at, who you contact, what websites you visit, etc etc, the more parts of your life they can package and sell into the market for other companies to use to further monetize your life.

MS and Apple were just good old fashioned scheisters trying to rip you off by monopolizing and upping profit margins beyond reason like people have been doing for centuries. Google is more like Big Brother thumbing through your wallet.

It's going to happen any which way, whether it's Google that does it or some other company, but, I still don't have to like it happening. 20 years from now we'll be wiping our asses and say "wow, this toilet paper sucks" and we'll then power up our wall hologram comp and see fifteen advertisements for softer toilet paper and say "thanks Google. Glad you were there to watch me being discontent with my current ass wiping experience."

Just so you know, Google scans your email contents and keeps record of every search terms you put down. It also owns a military drone company. I don't trust that company.

Android still sucks though.

I already thought Google was bigger than iPhone or Microsoft.

 

Which they recanted when they agreed to filter search results in China and now other places as well.

 

Yeah. They've also gone on record talking about how patent trolling is something they disagree with and hurting the industry, yet they're the first ever convicted patent troll even with *all* the news about their competitors and patent issues.

This company manages to keep a relatively clean/friendly/for the consumer image while flinging every bit as much sh*t as their competitors. Did I mention that their patent related budget is larger than their R&D budget?

It's not that they do things particularly worse than their competitors... It's that when some arsehole Google suit who would sell you for a dime says "do no evil" people believe him.
