Sooner or later I want to start going to gleasons and like with everything else I like to do my homework on it beforehand. In gleasons, the 80 dollar a month membership includes JUST the usage of the facility? or does it include training as well?(like class im guessing) I see that they offer privates with an instructor for like around 20 an hour on average(depending on who) and I realized if i want to train hard that would be a bit expensive.

So if it is 80 a month, and i train 3 times a week, thats 60 a week. 4 weeks= 240 dollars PLUS the 80 dollar membership. So thats 320 a month if i want to train just three times a week?

Or does the 80 dollar membership include like normal group classes and the privates are just on top of that?

thanks, and if anyone got nice boxing gyms in brooklyn then let me know

Im not a huge fan of boxing in any way but even I have heard about Gleasons.

Correct me if im wrong but thats like a chuteboxe in the boxing world or is that a bad comparison?;)

Its 15-25 an hour on the trainer and yea is hella expensive

Lord have Mercy, I can't believe that any place could be over $300 a month. I sure hope someone clears this up.

Im not really sure, Gleasons has been around for a long time whereas chuteboxe and mma and stuff is fairly new.
http://www.gleasonsgym.net/
check out the history and all that other stuff and I am not sure if the "hall of fame" is just people they inducted or people who have trained there from one time to another.

Basically I feel like i would be commiting a sin if i wanted to train striking and didnt go to gleasons. Especially since there isnt too many striking gyms to begin with.

Gleason's isn't the same as it used to be, don't pay more than you should just because of the name

gleasons works like this:
membership to the gym is $80 a month.
then you find your own trainer (they will set you up with one if you like)...$30 to 40 a lesson
or $20 to 40 a week depending on which guy you ask, how much money you can pay, how much commitment, if your a amateur hoping to go pro someday, etc, etc

gleasons is more for pro's who already have a set trainer or for rich white collar guys who can afford the "private lesson fee". it has good sparring cause that's where the best in the city go. but if your just starting stand-up, you won't get to spar until the first 1 month or 2 months.

my advice? i would find another gym, lots in brooklyn and the bronx even queens. Or if you want to train in nyc there is church street (which has a decent beginners program) or kingsway. At kingsway, i had a deal worked out for 120 a month unlimted, but had a bad experience with my trainer when he started asking me for $5 dollars extra for "lunch" after i would train.

I've been boxing in nyc for about 4 years on and off and in my experience, unless your a pro or an amateur hoping to go pro or have connections, people will take advantage of you and try to get your money.

send me a pm, i can tell you more if you want

thanks moobies, i dont want to waiste your time as i am not starting boxing yet and am "just doing my homework". But 5 dollars extra for lunch? sounds funny lol. I am not looking to go pro, i would just like to do striking for recreational purposes and would do amateur fights if possible sooner or later and see where it takes me.
