Glenn and John give their thoughts on Ta-Nehisi Coates. They don't like what his views. They think he plays up on white guilt and makes it as though blacks have no agency.
John makes a good point that there will always be bigots and racists in society. It is easy to affirm the narrative if you wanted that racism is what causes all racial disparities. But John doesn't see it that simple. He wants blacks to be taken seriously. They don't want people to have lower expectations for blacks.
They talk about the book Hillbilly Elegy. It is about a hillbilly who ends up going to Yale law school. They make the point that he, and others like him, are a lot like blacks who come from poverty.
Good conversation about other stuff too.
