after seeing xande do so well with closed guard made me wana go back and play it more since i was a purple i gave up on closed and anytime im there id open it to work open guard cause i felt guys with good posture are gonna shut it down and im gonna use alot of energy trying to break posture i still feel it has its flaws but i really wana develop a stronger closed guard and find some good tips top guys are using to keep tight

i know baret yoshida had a tape on armbars and triangles from guard but its decades old so not sure how well it is today

Ryan Hall's triangle DVD has a ton of information on nogi closed guard.

Also Xande has some good stuff on BJJ library

U know everyone always brags on jean jac machados no gi game has he ever put out a set? the fact he only has a few fingers on 1hand stops him from playing with lapels so he had to develop a tight under or over hook game for sweeps triangles ect

Someone should make a list of must have bjj/grappling dvds doesnt matter if its old or new.

i ag
Closed guard isn't as lethal in no-gi as in the gi.
ree but in mma you have to have something tight traditional over hook hipping out and wrist control isnt good enough i thought about checking out the shawn williams guard since hes tight and controls posture well

Neil Melanson's stuff is money. Especially if you have any interest in MMA, the sort of arm trapping posture control he uses to set everything up is great for not getting punched while also being offensive.

Single leg x is better in nogi with heel hooks.
I would say underhook half retains most of it's effectiveness.
course it is cause with a gi u can grab there lapel to pull there head up which killls alot of options even though in gi they cant heel hook you id still prefer being nogi with single leg x

You are saying because of rule sets. I am talking about the guard itself. What guard is better without having the additional grips and control the gi provides as WELL as the increased friction the gi material allows to stop escape

The reverse mantis guard variant is trash in the gi, but works in no-gi.

I would say single leg x is better in the gi if you want to do heel hooks. Once you sweep them, you can use the gi to make sure they don't clear your knee line.

What guard is???

Lockdown style of half is better in no-gi, than in the gi. With the gi you flatten yourself trying to weave it in you get just get pinned by better passers. You can't get lapel underhooked in no-gi.
