Will be in Gothenburg for 4.5 days in late April. Any insight appreciated from those who live in Scandinavia, have traveled there, or have traveled in general.

    Sights to see
    Things to do
    Things only locals would know
    How Americans are perceived
    Do most speak English well
    Pics of hot Swedish chicks
    Etc

If you are a drinker be aware they have strict alcohol regulations, and basically all of the partying takes place on the weekend.

I was considering going there Summer 2018, but went to London, Paris and Nice instead. They ALL speak English basically. They think they are morally superior to Americans, but will be polite.

    Ask me anything..

It's really hard to tell someone what to do/see without knowing their interests..

Are you here to party, visit family, etc?

    Everyone speaks english..

Americans are percieved as very america centered/not very well read but also very easy to get along with..

Generally culture is very cheap here.. many museums are free/cheap..

Night life/restaurants are expensive and swedes are not very welcoming..

So you've been here.. and in italy.. i have..

    Scenery is better here..
Wine and food is debatable.. also price.. atleast in rome/milano.. if you're going on a wine trip then italy is where it's at ofcourse..

And yeah.. everyone drives small, annoying banged up cars in italy and the horn is used for everything..

Well, if it's one or the other, it's definitely Italy. However, I've already been to Italy several times, so I wouldn't mind seeing Sweden once...

Go in the summer.. enjoy our nature.. go island hopping.. preferably in july or august.. we have 5 weeks vacation and a tough winter..

In the summer people are noticably happier and actually talk to eachother..

    I live in Gothenburg.

    April you say..

April is good for experiencing sports events. SHL(Hockey) has the semis and final during April. Decent chance the local team will make it that far. The Allsvenskan(Football) has also just started which can be fun.

The City has a pretty decent music scene(rock, metal, any international touring bands).

Hopefully the weather is decent which means the bars will open their terraces or outdoor parts. This means day drinking.

Everyone speaks more or less perfect English, might just take a second before their English kicks in. Americans are liked. People are used to Americans though so don't expect any special treatment for that as such. But yeah, maybe it could help you be seen as a little exotic among younger women if you go out.

Gothenburg is after all an industrial city so there are not as many sights as in Stockholm for example. I would recommend you to take a ferry to the Archipelago one day.

If you have any question just ask ahead!

Not true. You will be able to go to any bar or club in the middle of the week. Some clubs might not be open on Monday, Tuesday etc. because few go out then.

Kind of going on a whim. Had the itch go to Europe recently. Looked up flights to places I'd like to see. Ended choosing Gothenburg over Berlin because the flights were more reasonable, and I have a friend in Gothenburg. Plus I like the idea of going to a mid-sized city. 4 days likely wouldn't be enough to get the most out of London or Berlin.

Plan on doing some sight-seeing(museums, historical places, etc), maybe go to a sporting event if it's convenient, will probably hit the bars a couple of nights, and obviously dining.
