Yep, in a few days I will be landing in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Booked a hotel 40 minutes south east of GRU airport.

It'll be my first time in Brazil. I plan on finding a place to train BJJ or MMA during the day and hitting the nightlife during the evenings. Not sure if I am gonna bother going further south to visit the beach area. Or should I?

Also should hire private security for the first day or so? (this idea has been thrown at me by multiple friends)

My brother is going next week. Has a Brazilian girlfriend there. Check out the following:

    1. Any mandatory self quarantine required when there or coming back home?
    2. Huge corvid outbreaks where you are going?
    3. Some gyms don't take strangers these days because of covid
    4. Have fun, stay safe alone at night.

Hopefully you come back alive with all of your limbs still intact.

Im surprised they're letting people go. Covid is out of control there.

No quarantine upon arrival. Travelers/health insurance requirement was lifted in late September. Negative Covid test paperwork requirement was lifted in early September. Visa requirement was lifted in June and Americans just need a passport.

Some gyms don't what? man, if gyms here in the US are happy to open back up and get things started again, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the gym owners in Brazil have an even more DGAF attitude about it.

Yeah I will take precaution at night.

Some Brazilian independent media outlets are saying that info is way overblown. I'll be careful though.

You don't need security FFS. I spent 6 weeks travelling Brazil last year, Sao Paulo included. Sure, there are dodgy areas like all cities but I was in a nightlife area and walked home alone every night I was there, 20min walk, no issues at all. Police presence was relatively high and visible which helped.

Sao Paulo is NOT a tourist spot though, it's just a mega city, I spent 2 days there and that was enough. Much, much better places to see - Rio is fucking cool, great nightlife. Beaches around Rio are also great, Isla Grande etc.

    Fernando de Noronha[IMG]

Plan ahead if you want to visit Fernando de Noronha, an archipelago of 21 islands and islets in the Atlantic Ocean. To protect these fragile islands, only 460 tourists are allowed to visit these unspoiled beauties per day. And you’ll definitely want to include Fernando de Noronha on your itinerary if you can. Conde Nast called this archipelago “possibly the most relaxing and most beautiful place” in the world. And the New York Times included Fernando de Noronha on its 2014 list of must-visit destinations. This high praise is well deserved. The waters around Fernando de Noronha are crystal clear and teeming with fish, dolphins and turtles, making them perfect for snorkeling and diving. You’ll also find plenty of lovely, deserted beaches, pretty coves and lovely waterfalls on these very special and very exclusive islands

Ok fair enough. I’ll probably think about not getting security.

Which hotel did you stay in? Which night life area? I saw quite a few spots in São Paulo on the map.

But do you have any advice on transportation to my hotel which is almost a 2 hour drive? Are taxis legit? Is Uber a thing in Brazil?

Sorry for the multitude of questions.

Has your television set been broken since February? There's a GLOBAL PANDEMIC. Brazil is like one of the worst hit countries right now.

Hotel - I was backpacking so I was in a hostel. Cant remember the name of the neighbourhood actually but it seemed reasonably safe day and night.

Transportation - taxis are totally fine especially those at the airports. Uber is a thing, yes. I didn't arrive or depart via the airport though, sorry (came from Paraty on a bus and left for Iguazu Falls on another bus).

Awesome, sounding good so far. The biggest hurdle is seeming a little easier now.
