Going to a Mike Swain Seminar

I'm going to be attending a Mike Swain Seminar in a couple of months. Anyone ever trained with him before or know anyone who has? If so, how did you like the training?

Where is the seminar being held ? Swain is a true legend in Judo, great technique. He is really good on the ground as well.

Mike Swain is considered to be the most successful Judo player the US has ever produced. Mike Swain is the only man from the Western Hemisphere to win a gold medal at the World Championships since its inception in 1956. The World Championships is a very prestigious tournament held only once every two years. As a World Champion, 4 - time Olympian (bronze medallist in the Seoul Games) and 1996 Olympic Coach, Mike Swain has gained a phenomenal amount of valuable knowledge and experience. His video series by World Martial Arts are considered by many experts to be the finest Judo videos ever produced.

Cool!!! I go to LA every 3 to 4 months as well and I am thinking about dropping in on Judo Gene and Gokor on their Monday night open forum. I think it'd be cool to catch a class with Swain and Judo Gene in the same year!

I've got Swain's judo newaza series and it is very, very good.
Swain know's his shit.
He's one of those guys that would've probably done well in MMA if he had started in his prime.

Mike Swain is a cool guy. I have the complete judo set and for me as a yellow belt its very good and l can try his stuff at the dojo, his ashi waza is top notch instructional.

Swain came to my club right before I got there. My coach had just won the national championship at 90kg and Swain put the hurt on him bad at our club. He still says that is the hardest he has ever been thrown and he has competed in South America and Europe.

Learn from both Swain and Gokor, the more different teachers you learn from, the better you repetoire is. Im partial to Gokor and Lebell, sinc eyou leanr Judo, Sambo, Catch Wrestling the works

Damn, and your instructor is a National Champ so he has to be absolutely awesome and Swain was still putting hard throws on him. How long ago was that?

That's what I've heard. I may start dropping in on them every time I'm in LA , maybe even pick up a few privates with Gokor. I've always really liked Sambo due to the Leg Lock knowledge. I met Gokor in '98 in Vegas. He was cool.

I think LeBell is the shit. The dude is supposed to really be old school. I 'd love to meet and train with him.

Awesome. I have his basic Judo and Basic Grappling Tapes and I thought they were excellent.
