Another poster here made a couple of valid points regarding the consensus GOAT candidates.

    @Twink182

I believe for most of Sherdog over the years it has boiled down to 4 guys:

    Silva
    Fedor
    GSP
    Jones

His point was that much of their career was pre-USADA or the post USADA career was tainted and after some thought I'm inclined to agree. Silva post USADA has been a mess with two failed drug tests and only one (controversial) win. Jones of course is an ongoing meme to pulsing with multiple failed drug tests. Fedor has never fought under USADA and spent much of his career in orgs that actively encouraged PED use.

GSP is essentially the cleanest but as was pointed out to me, he has only fought once under USADA (but he did spend a year and a half in the testing pool).

Sooo, if drug testing becomes the new criteria for GOAT contention and the starting point is June 2015 (when USADA testing went live) who qualifies for the best status?

    The criteria would be:

    Most post USADA wins
Most post USADA top 10 wins
    Longest win streak post USADA
    Title wins and title defences
And obviously no failed drug tests

So who do you have? For me it would be Holloway. 7 wins post USADA, current title holder, 2 title defences, 6 top 10 wins (Aldo twice, Ortega, Pettis, Stephens and Lamas were all top 10 when he fought them).

And of course no failed drug tests. Plus he is undefeated post USADA

    Who else should we nominate?

I considered Khabib but he has only 5 fights post USADA and only 3 top 10 wins (Johnson wasn't top 10 at the time they fought). Plus he has no title defences.

Cormier however did go 6-0-1 and defended the HW strap twice

Trash thread. First of all, USADA is a joke of an organisation. They're extremely corrupt (as the Jones situation has proven) and extremely incompetent (they still haven't been able to caught Yoel). They absolutely suck. Secondly, in the pre-USADA era, all top fighters juiced. Some more than others, but that's still the case today. So taking away pre-USADA wins is stupid, there was as much of a level playing field then as there is now. Thirdly, everyone is on steroids. Those who bitch and whine about it the most (guys like Bisping, Hunt and others) are just shameless hypocrites.

Gegard before and especially after as one of the goats.......and still 33, fighting as his best version prime and the lack of wear and tear mma mileage[fight IQ] of a 46-6 record since 17 years old fighting successfully in every major promotion (let's remember-only elite to leave mma s top promotion on a 5 fight win streak).

I'll say it again again and again- mma's paradox.

Johnson was ranked 6th, when Khabib fought him..
Healy, RDA, Barboza, McGregor and Johnson were all in the top 10 when Khabib faced them.. You could include Raging Al, he was bumped into the top 10 soon after
He defended his title, vs McGregor.

Mousasi only has 6 fights under USADA testing , 5-1 record with only Weidman and Belfort as his top 10 wins. Also no belts and no defences.

Travis Fulton just got his 255th win (forearm choke!) and has 318 sanctioned matches. He should be in the GOAT conversation just for durability alone.

    Oh and he's 41.

    Holloway
Maybe Khabib some day when he decides to start to actually fight instead of looking for a way to blanket other guys. (honestly speaking)

Charles Oliveira is also 6-1 after usada, he's also the guy with most finished ever in UFC, knocked down his last opponent then proceeded to choke him, not sure if GOAT, but a honorable mention fo sho.

Johnson was not ranked in the top 10 anywhere except in UFC.com rankings which are a joke.

The other guys you listed he fought pre-USADA.

Lol, if he was ranked 6th in the official rankings, he should be regarded as a top 10 win.. He koed Poirer, just before he fought Khabib.
No amount of mental gymnastics will change that.

DC. He HAS to be clean. Unless he's juicing up and going directly to the drive-thru.

Johnson was 1-2 going into that fight in his last 3. Poirier had zero top 10 wins going into his fight with Johnson

Beating a guy with no top 10 wins doesn't put you in the top 10....

    No gymnastics required, simple facts

No one on this forum should ever consider "UFC" rankings official by any stretch of the imagination

Would you count Mighty Mouse's streak going back before USADA (based on his having passed every post USADA test), or you can only count wins after testing started?
