I went to GNC for the first time ever yesterday and talked to the manager there. All this supplement stuff confuses me. I related how I was having some problems training twice a day, and she asked which supplements I use. I don't use any, and she said that was my problem. The GNC lady suggested I use this multivitamin and muscle milk. Is she just trying to sell me something? They are pretty costly; can I change my diet to get the same effect? Can I get them cheaper anywhere or use different supplements?

I know this is Yet Another Muscle Milk thread. I'm just wondering if this is overkill and whether I can replace the MM/multivitamin with different food choices. I don't eat very strictly, but I do eat lots of veggies (spinach, broccoli, carrots, cucumbers, green beans, etc...) and limit my junk. Besides, I am completely clueless when it comes to food.

Well, you should defilty be taking a multi no matter what. Without being able to see the list/amounts of the actual vitamins/minerals in those, it's hard to tell if the one is worth the price. As far as the Muscle milk, there's already a thread on that, you should check it out.

Also, what exaclt do you mean by training 2x a day? Running and weights? Weights and MT/MMA/ BJJ? Whats your diet and training schedule like?

If you have a few more details it'll be easier to see where you might need improvements.

On a side note, how do you post "GNC" and "muscle milk" as a link to a website?

both are good products imo. I take the mega men sport during the day and muscle milk at night for recovery.

Definately see my Muscle Milk thread. Read the current stickies thoroughly. Don't write off simple Whey Protein.

GNC's mutlivitamin is good. Muscle milk is good too but you can get a protein supplement ot help with recovery instead. GNC sells their products at retail price. You can get them cheaper online. By the way I wouldn't take the muscle milk and the vitamin at the same time. Assuming you mix the muscle milk with milk, I think the calcium would interfere with the absorption of the multi.

Your problems sound like they probably stem from energy deprivation. You need more calories.

For this reason, Muscle Milk would probably be my first recommendation as well. And MV's are crucial, especially if you're constantly fighting off catabolism.

I applaud her recommendations.

I finally picked up another bottle of Multis the other day. I realized that money is worth being spent if it is on a good, reputable cause such as my health...

Oh yeah, Frodo, the number #1 cause of total body soreness in overtrainers:

Dehydration.

Start carrying around a water bottle, discreetly if that's important to you, but do it. An easy rule of thumb: if you grab your bottle (or go to the fountain, whatever) because you're thirsty, you're not drinking often enough. You'll be pissing once an hour at least. It's a bitch, I know. Try it, and see how your muscles feel.
