Is it dangerous or counter-productive to use Vale tudo gloves when working on the heavybag( i wanna buy a pair)? Right now i have an old pair of everlast heavybag gloves which i have been using everyday, and a pair of 16oz. I kind of want my fingers to be open, i also want to get a feel for the gloves.

Also, is the speedbag an effective training tool in MMA as it is in boxing?

Yea...gonna damage the small bones in your wrist or hands..pads maybe but not the bad

Every time I use so-called "baby gloves" (as Joe Rogan likes to call them), I hurt my hands. That being said, it depends on how hard you're hitting the bag. Generally when using the heavy bag, go with wraps and 14oz gloves or higher.

Use super bag gloves, boxing or thai gloves and wrap your hands when doing heavy bag work.

You can use MMA gloves if you are going to punch it light. If you punch it too hard, you are going to mess up your wrists. Bag Gloves and Boxing gloves are good for practice

Never hit the bag without gloves.

At the smallest use 12 oz gloves, nothing smaller. I use mma training gloves when hitting my heavy bag, but I don't hit it full force. If you want to hit full power go with boxing gloves. Especially don't use 4oz gloves, you can really damage your hand.

To Samuraii: NEVER hit a bag without gloves, period. Unlkess you don't care if you damage your hands.

Harbinger makes a glove similar to what you're looking for but designed expressly for bagwork; you can find a pic and maybe order a pair --> HERE

They're sturdy, more glove-like than regular/traditional bag gloves (which I've not cared as much for) and have nice thick wrist wraps built into them. I've been beating the hell out of my heavybag routinely (2-3 times a week, 30-40 minutes) with the pair I bought back in mid 2003 for $45, and aside from some scuffing of the leather on the fingers, they're as good as they were when I first took them out of the box. I recommend them highly.

if u hit the bag with the 16 oz gloves u will learn how to throw faster with weight on your hand = even harder throws when u have nothing on at all

its stupid seeing people thinking their hard at the gym hitting the bags hard with no gloves but theyre just hurting their wrists

^SSF shooto's are pretty much identical. I have had them since the day they came out, and they still hold up great. Hitting the heavy bag, grappling, and sparring all work well with them. The only difference is that those ones at CSI don't have a thumb loop, and cost 5$ more.

I have only used gloves with thumb loops, so I am gonna buy a pair without just to see the difference.

The harbinger's are identical to the century gloves. They are great for focus mits but I have yet to try them on a heavy bag.

You should always wrap your hands and wear gloves when you hit the bag.

I like the IMF Tech bag gloves, from Ringside.
