Give me a valid reason for this ridiculous rematch.

Should be simple, right?

Its not the best fight for business, as McGregor got handled in the 2nd round at a more comfortable weight.

Better for business is McGregor vs Frankie. The build up will be solid, McGregor fans buy into a 145 Title fight more, and 145 isn't unnecessarily held hostage. Also, according to McGregor, guys at 145 can't handle his shots. The rematch is to get the fans to believe it was a fluke, and to buy into the possibility that a rematch will go differently. There's absolutely no way that Conor leapfrogs Nate in terms of all around skills before UFC 200, absolutely no way. Dana wants another 1 punch KO, and as we saw, Conor on steak couldn't bring it home, neither will he on salad.

EDIT: To go even further, what happens after Conor loses again? His long term stock drops tremendously, and we won't see the same numbers he pulls again. I figure the UFC wants more out of Conor in the long term, rather than just feeding him to a guy that FINISHED him by rocking him, reversing a takedown, and submitting him.

So explain, why do you think this is a valid instant rematch?

I kind of agree, it's bad. I am not sure if the UFC is trying to get the most out of Conor and/or they believe he might lose the FW.

The UFC is just cashing in on the Conor train before selling the company to the Chinese.

I hate the fight but, Conor vs Nate is better for business honestly. It'll draw all the casuals like last time. Most McGregor fans are casuals like Bieber.

There's no good reason for this match

I hope ufc goes bust

Money.

Conor fans are nearly cult like in their belief that he is invincible. Even though they saw him lose they all believe it was a fluke so they will buy the PPV again because they believe he will beat Diaz this time.

Save Conor life...

Another weight cut like this can kill him for sure..

I posted this somewhere else, but whatever....

I think if both guys are ready and willing to fight at UFC 200, it makes no sense to have them fight each other so soon. You just bought yourself a new mainstream draw in Diaz. He was on Extra for fuck's sake. Bieber and Drake said stupid things about him. If he loses in the rematch, people will assume it was a fluke and you risk losing out on any drawing appeal past the rematch. If Connor loses, it just reinforces that he's not this whirling dervish of unorthodox and exciting striking, that he's a guy with no gas tank and no ground game who won't ever be able to compete against bigger fighters.

It makes much more sense to put Diaz against RDA and Connor against Edgar (or even Aldo or Max, but mostly Edgar). You can argue that Diaz hasn't earned the RDA shot, but he beat the guy in two rounds who was supposed to challenge for the title.

Of course the downside is there's a fairly high likelihood of both fighters losing. But then maybe that's the time when you do the rematch. Both guys looking for redemption and all that.

Or they both win and you have two bonafide superstars to promote.

The booking as it is now makes absolutely no sense. And I don't think they'll give Edgar a shot until Connor is no longer champ or Edgar gets fucking old. If at all.

The UFC keeps taking hits on their cash cows....to me its good, it forces diversity in the org that they would otherwise never try.

But having their main push athlete lose in his original weight class, a distinct possibility against Edgar, might just push the UFC over some perceived mental cliff.

Personally I'd rather see the Edgar match, it has far more relevance to the sport and its divisions....but obviously will gladly watch a rematch...which still will mean just as little as the first match.

I'll give you one, the last fight was top class entertainment, the second one will likely also be top class entertainment.

It's a better rematch than Machido/Hendo.
Machida and Hendo are out of their prime, they are just legend vs legend fight.

Diaz and McGregor are on their prime, this fight doesn't make sense. Machida vs Hendo 2 does actually, because old timers need to fight old timers.

Only reason I can think they would do an immediate rematch is because they want Aldo and edgar fight to see who gets the next shot.

Perhaps there are concerns that Conor needs time to diet back down to 145.

I'd rather see Holloway vs Aldo, nate vs rda and edgar vs mcgregor.

I'm not sure why they are going this route. The feedback from the fans hasn't been good so far.
