GitHub abandons 'master' term to avoid row

Girls Who Code is a terrorist organization

Reminder that they literally ousted the inventor of Linux because he didn't use soy enough language in his code reviews, orchestrated by people who never contributed to the code in their lives

Women in tech was a mistake

Imagine having somebody who looks like this dictate how you do your job:

Additional reminder that a woman stole the valor from men who took a picture of a black hole, taking credit for the program despite contributing nothing to the code itself

my equality and diversity degree came right after my bachelors

I am currently working on my slave's degree . . . I have my thesis on Belle Delphine's bathwater

lol, instead of master/slave it is now oppressor/oppressed. "Now you want to attach your second server as a oppressed drive"

can I read your thesis? I need some material to oppressorbate to

I'm pretty sure I missed my stop on this train.
I want it to turn back but it just keeps rolling forward into a place with more and more brain trauma patients, they seem to be overwhelming trains carriages.

What about the master cylinders?!

It’s kind of weird, because this is more like the usage of “master” in a branching context. It’s the “original” - generally it means it’s the working production code that future versions will be based on. Every other branch isn’t considered a “slave”, that terminology is more common found in database systems where you have “slave” replicas of a master. But there’s no such relationship with the master branch and other branches. I’ve never heard anyone refer to them as “slave” branches. More common terms would be “feature” branch, “rc” branch (release candidate) or “staging”.

Needs a politically correct Master of Puppets photoshop.

The world's biggest site for software developers is abandoning decades-old coding terms to remove references to slavery.

The master-slave relationship in technology usually refers to a system where one - the master - controls other copies, or processes.

The years-old campaign to replace such terms has been given fresh impetus amid the resurgence of Black Lives Matter protests in the United States.

Mr Friedman's announcement came in a Twitter reply to Google Chrome developer Una Kravets, who said she would be happy to rename the "master" branch of the project to "main".

"If it prevents even a single black person from feeling more isolated in the tech community, feels like a no-brainer to me," she wrote.

Anyone actually feels offended / isolated by this use of the word master? And if so, Are you also offended by my master's degree?
I use git, and I’m not sure. Git doesn’t use ‘master’ and ‘slave’, just ‘master’. It’s common for other branch’s to be called things like ‘development’ etc.

I don’t think git is that great anyway, i don’t think it’s very user friendly.
