Whenever I've heard an adult be described as acting like a child, I usually take it to mean they're being lazy or shirking their responsibilities. But my girlfriend will sometimes actually act like a child. I love her "adult" self - she's educated, a teacher, and pretty switched on. However, when she's really excited, nervous or sad she will kind of revert to a childlike personality. She puts on a baby voice, pouts, makes cutesy noises etc. If this was in context it would be OK, but sometimes it almost seems to happen uncontrollably. What's going on here? Some context - she's 27, has very protective parents and tends to struggle in situations where she has to act formally (outside of teaching). I love her but I'm having trouble dealing with this.
