Gilbert Burns defends Stephen Thompson performance, responds to Dana White criticism

mmmh... yeah... I agree on Luque....
Though Luque lost to WB while Burns won, so Luque obviously has to catch up (at least by beating another top ranked fighter)....
And that’s exactly why burns fought the way he did. Everyone criticizing him just wanted them to stand and bang if you ain’t mad about the back of the head shots which is reasonable then STFU and stop being haters he had usman rocked when no one else did even pillow fisted Colby can’t say that. Side note I hope Luque sends Chiesa to the shadow realm for his last fight being so terrible to watch.

hard to look good against wonderboy. he turns a ufc fight into a tag game.

well, I didn't think anything about those shots.... SS moved his head while Burns was hitting it, which is a normal occurrence in fights.

If I am not mistaken, he should have locked the body, so Khabib could not move... or he should have moved to the other side of the body.... I truly don't recall... but it is something he failed to do, and Khabib was able to get out of it as a consequence.

But yeah, I agree with how you divided... I just think that burns needs to even pull guard, but generate a lot of scrambles, which is what would open opportunities for a sub.
No. He was blocking Khabib's hip on both sides. Using one leg across the back and one hook is arguably the best way to finish a guillotine from guard AND it it better for sweeping or transitioning to other submissions. Personally I find guillotines from closed guard to be a last ditch effort kind of move. If you don't get the sub you're left with no easy way to transition to other attacks. Dustin fucked up by not transitioning when Khabib rolled to his hip

I think pulling guard is a bad call just because Usman is smothering on top. He gave RDA a hard time despite him being incredible hard to pin. However, I do agree that anything could create a scramble could be a worthwhile risk. You make good points. Maybe even rolling for leg locks in early rounds just to get it to the floor?

That's what happens siometimes when top guys fight other top guys.

It's been so long since we saw 2 top WW contenders fight we forgot that can be the case sometimes.
Its especially true with Thompson. I was sure before it started that this would be a stinker. Thompson is one of the most elusive fighters and if he doesnt want to engage you cant make that an action packed fight no way. If you just go full attack you get countered all day. I have a lot of respect for Thompsons fantastic skillset but with most opponents it makes for a stinker fight. Burns did everything right to defeat Wonderboy.

Exactly, Wonderboys been finished once his whole career aswell, it's not like he's finished in every fight that makes Burns look weak either.

Wasn't a great fight but not all of them are.
He exposed Wonderboy as any type of threat to Usman though. Literally was able to take him down basically whenever he wanted and keep him there. It was a good example of someone getting overrated in a certain area (take down defense) when they haven't fought anybody that's strong in that area
He had a good tdd vs Rory years ago

It was a very interesting UFC 1 type of match. And it shows how effective grappling is when you fake stand - up

Burns did let his hands go but it seems he was struggling to both strike and do BJJ. I don't know why he just couldn't do both.

I wouldn’t care what Dana White thinks either if I was a fighter…

He changes his mood faster than a bitch on her period.

Fuck that TRT using, pink, Pepto-Bismol blood type having, having my private chef cook me disgusting fatty foods to taste on the gram eating, casino Hooker fucking, money wasting, used to be a boxing instructor so I think I know how to fight, don’t pay my fighters enough and hoard all the profits from UFC ass miser.
You're surely letting Dana have it, aren't you?
Talk about being a bitch on her period

Pot calling the kettle black.
Burns acted like he just won the belt after an epic fight for the ages.
Except the pot and the kettle aren't anywhere near the same. Burns literally puts his life on the line every time he steps into the octagon. Meanwhile, Dana just filed for a copy-write on the phrase "Fuck it Fridays" so he can monetize eating shitty food on social media.

I referred to Burns calling White "emotional".

Why not? Burns had just beaten a guy everyone in his diision avoided. Dana white till this day is still ducking that ass beating from De la Hoya

Not just in that fight. He also got too excited after wobbling Usman, pretty much blew his wad after the first

Woodley came closer to submitting Wonderboy than Burns did lol
