Gifted programs continue to be destroyed because they aren't diverse enough

I'm only surprised it took Seattle this long to follow suit. It's the exact same destructive mentality that has frozen hiring in fire and police departments in cities across the country. That has also caused public education to get worse and worse. They can't hire the best and reward excellence or maintain high standards, because it's rarely going to be racially proportionate. And many of the remaining gifted programs have essentially taken in a certain number of minorities who wouldn't otherwise qualify just to avoid being disbanded for the time being.





Check out the woman below. There are legions of such people making these decisions for everyone. And running voting stations and so on.

It's simple communism being enacted in America under the radar.

You didn't even bother to read it before you commented did you? It has nothing whatsoever to do with lack of funding. It's solely due to objections over the racial makeup of the gifted programs.

Actually, what's ironic is that many of the parents with the means will most likely put their kids into private schools with their own gifted programs, if not read the writing on the wall and move to a place with better options. While the poorer minority kids and/or white kids who legit qualify for these programs are left with no program.

Except this has nothing to do with funding? This is quite literally a board dismantling an accelerated learning program (that costs very little to begin with) for gifted students for no reason other than race numbers.

The best part is that it's been proven many times that placing gifted students in with normal kids of their age (which this plan will do) is actually detrimental to their learning and causes more problems. So the few minority students this did help are going to suffer more than their white counterparts because minority students are often more harshly punished for transgressions in school.

It's fucking ass backwards and makes no sense from any angle.

Finland's students regularly tests among the highest in the world. There's no tracking in Finland - all kids are mainstreamed together and get the same basic education. Gifted students are expected to help struggling students so everyone can succeed. They strive hard to ensure that every school is high-quality and gets comparable support.

Why wouldn't they try to help correct any conditions that preclude more non-whites from joining these gifted programs? Just take it away instead? Hmm. No. Imagine being a dude showing up and saying that people in Finland or wherever are just all gifted and this somehow means programs in other countries are unnecessary. And I would just like to point out that Finland isn't exactly known for any great new technology that's it's common geniuses in it's schools are blessing us all with.
