Gi sizing for competition

Just got my first gi ever (fuji) and it fits me perfectly height & length wise but apparently Im freakishly thin cause Im swimming in it width wise. Ive heard tourny officials (Im a long way from competing but I think its best to plan ahead for this stuff) can be crazy about gi fit so Im afraid to shrink it any. The pants and sleeves are exactly the right length as they are so how do I wash it so it wont shrink? Also, its a blue gi and I read something about dunking it in something to help keep the color??
I know this stuff has probly been beaten to death but you guys always know what to do haha, thanks!

For regular washing (you should after every class) without shrinking, wash it in cold water and let hang dry.

People reccomend soaking your gi in a vinegar/water solution (I don't know the ratio but it should be mostly water) for a bit (a couple hours, I guess) before washing the first time.
