Gi Patch Taboo

Since I already have an Elvis "TCB" tatt, I thought I'd get the matching patches from his Karate Man days:

One thing to note, in the international rule book (sorry, can't remember the letters of the fed), it actually states the positions on the gi where one can put patches.

the best gi i have ever seen was at the nashville open, some guy had a pimp gi, its had ky jelly, trojan, and all kinds of patches on them. he scanned them on his computer and printed them on patches

nice

I might put a Brasilian flag and an American flag on mine to go with my affiliate patch, but i think i'd stop there.

I may also sew a ninja hood into it.

Speaking of Ninja hoods, I just got this badass sweatshirt from a company called Loki Gear. It's outdoor gear, so the hood had a ninja-esque mask built into the interior, and the sleves fold down into gloves. I'm thinking of wearing it in the walkin to a fight somewhere down the road, all ninja'd up with my jitz belt looking like Shinobi.. Maybe even just use it to cut weight. Anyway, check out their stuff, it's simple, yet ninja-tastic all at the same time. LOKI - Select A Country

I'm goin to put a patch on my butt that says "do not oil check"

I have a big Superman S on the back of my gi.. yea i get a lot of crap but so what :)

thats actually awesome..

Haha, there's a kid in my area who competes in judo, who has a big teddy bear patch on his gi. It's awesome.

I want to get a few comic book character patches but haven't found any that I liked enough to try to learn how to sew them on.

Speaking of Ninja hoods...

You dug this thread up from a year ago to quote someone that wrote a quote 4yrs ago.
Bob wrote that (11/05)...you can't say "speaking of"... for something that happened 4yrs ago.:D

So first this thread gets brought back from a THREE year hibernation. And now a ONE year break as well? Please people, let it die.

Is there any taboo associated with decorating your gi with patches that have absolutely nothing to do with BJJ? I was thinking about sprucing up my old gi and sewing some random patches on it, but also didn't want to piss anyone off. My instructor said he doesn't care if I come in wearing a purple pink polka-dot gi, so I am not worried about him.

you taking the Judas Priest back poatch off your high school denim? Put the iron maiden and motorhead bottons on your gi too

These would be pretty cool -

or Decepticon -

It'd look pretty cool i think

yeah, your a whore if you are wearing patches.

Why put all that crap on unless someone is paying you to wear it.
Its newbies wanting to look "cool" or experienced.... just leave your gi how it is man. save your self some $.. let you game speak for it self.

Nice contradiction of yourself. I will try to save it.

"You are a a slut if you wear patches... at least be a whore and get paid to wear them!"

Anyways I have one small patch on my Gi and plenty on my shorts, none of which have a thing to do with any sponsor.

Shorts
Guatemala flag patch
three bracelets made by Guatemalan women who lost their husbands in the civil war.
Giant Misfits patch (Crimson Ghost)
Minor Threat
7 Seconds
"Punks not dead" patch

Gi
Small crimson ghost

Why do I wear these? Well I put on things that motivate me. I once weighed 285 lbs, and every day I would listen to old punk music and work my ass off. Now I'm over a 100 lbs lighter and I sport the patches to remember how I got where I am now.

The Guatemala patches are "never forget" kind of patches. Guatemala changed my life and completely changed how I handle training and competitions.

I say there is no problem with sewing on patches for decoration however just realize that there are people who will think you are a stupid noob and will try to tool on you at all times. I actually have never had any problems regaurding my patches, however I just moved so who knows how the new guys I will train with will take it.

well this isnt a patch but relates to the topic of gi decorating.. i saw a kid at my academy, he actually painted the school logo on the back which isnt bad, but then also put this flaming sprial going all across it, then on the tail he wrote brazilian jiu jitsu... all with fabric paint. The design is ugly as fuck, but guess he figures he looks cool.

As for me, I havent put any patches on mine, in fact I want to remove a few...namely the big ass gameness logo going down the lapel. Im thinking about having my school logo made into a nice sized patch and sewing it to the pant legs..thats about it
