this.

The guy goes out if his way to talk tough. Then semmingly cowers and wants no part of GGG save for either at 155 or getting a 85 15 split.

Canelo is a bigger draw but damn let's not pretend the guy is May or even Pac in terms,of drawing power. And GGG s name grows everyday now and add the fact he is the unified champ holds all the belts now. I can see 60 40 to Canelo but anything else is dumb.

I wonder how Canelo rep will fare with Mexicans after this. IMO this is a clear duck by canelo who is clearly afraid or,at least Oscar is.
The fight supposedly being made for next year is Canelo "clearly ducking?"

Where's the 85/15 split coming from @Streeter ? Hadn't heard that number from anyone who'd know.

Yes. He is trying to age him out and or hoping he loses. If Canelo wanted to fight it would be this fall not next. For all his, tough talk he seems to back up none of it. There's no reason not to have the fight this fall next May at the very latest. Also there is NO FIGHT MADE GGG people said that while they said they wanted it to them there's no contract. Sorry I don't treat Oscars word as gold. I still have doubts the fight happens even then as if GGG is looking great still Oscar and Canelo will come up with another reason why not. Till GGG either slows or hit about 40.

Golvokin is gonna turn into an old man in just a year? Geez, you guys are already getting your excuses ready for when your boy loses...

The fight is not signed. It sounds like Golden Boy pretty much kicked the can down the road.

Remember that scene in Jerry McGuire when the top prospect's dad shook Jerry's hand and said, "We're not into signing things, but what you have is my word, and that's stronger than oak!"

Then, of course, the kid signed with someone else. Since that means nothing.

I predicted in one of these threads that people would say this.

Canelo fought Cotto 11/21/15. He said after that fight that GGG was next. Then he fought Khan. Now he is saying it will be at least a year, and they will not sign on for the fight yet.

Of course people are going to start calling Canelo out for waiting for GGG to get old. At what point do you feel like that becomes a valid criticism?

As of right now, they are saying that maybe, at the very earliest, they will negotiate for next summer. So, that will be almost 2 years of "build-up" already, if they decide they are ready. If it's marinated enough.

The bigger excuses, right now, seem to be the ones being made for Canelo/Golden Boy kicking the can down the road a full year.

GGG should not be "old" in one year. But there is no fight deal signed for next year, and it has already been 7 months since Canelo won the lineal belt. So at the very earliest, we're talking about 2 years since Canelo won the belt to make the fight.

So I'll ask you the same question I asked Seano. At what point are you going to say, Okay, Canelo seems to be avoiding this. Is 2 years a good time frame for you? If Golden Boy kicks the can again 14 months from now, are you going to hold strong on this position?

I find that people try to excuse their favorite fighters for pretty much anything they do. So I'm just trying to get some lines drawn in the sand, so in the future you at least have to stick to your guns and stop making excuses.

Some heavy Mexican pride going on this week with Canelo joining the national soccer team to inspire hope and inspiration for all their fellow countrymen. ;)

I didn't say he would turn into an old man in a year. I stated I don't believe Canelo will fight him until he is either in age or his skills and or chin goes. Sadly the fight I would have at a pick em . Enter Canelo the new mayweather but with may e half the drawing power. ....... yet he negotiates like he has May like Draw. Lol

THIS!

If they both lost before then Id piss myself laughing.
I want to say that I would laugh too but I would probably beat a homeless person or something.

you don't make sense Seano. In one thread you talk about how GGG should just accept the catchweight and the 85-15 split because "you want to see the fight whilst they're both in their primes" yet in the next thread you have no problem with Canelo vacating his WBC belt because the WBC was "unnecessarily rushing the fight." Which one is it?

Personally, this is the last time I'll take Canelo at his word. My feeling is that PUO3 is right: Canelo and GGG are playing us and building this fight up. But if it keeps happening then it's becoming increasingly hard to defend Canelo. Cinco de Mayo makes hte most sense for obvious reasons.

It happens Cinco de Mayo 2017. Makes too much sense. PUO is right, they're playing everybody, the roles are set: GGG as the righteous crusader and Canelo as the coward. And their performances so far has been oscar worthy.

Why would either promotion announce anything if they didn't believe it was gonna happen ? Diminishes BOTH reputations. You guys are funny.

Canyellow's reputation is already in tatters. This is some desperate bid to try and save his blushes after his blatant duck.

I don't see any evidence of this at all.

as an mma fan this is the same excuse gsp made for not fighting anderson silva and that superfight never happened

At least there was a significant size difference there. Alvarez gets into the ring around the same weight (if not more) as Golovkin. He's one of the biggest weight cutters in boxing.
