The fight supposedly being made for next year is Canelo "clearly ducking?"
The fight is not signed. It sounds like Golden Boy pretty much kicked the can down the road.
Remember that scene in Jerry McGuire when the top prospect's dad shook Jerry's hand and said, "We're not into signing things, but what you have is my word, and that's stronger than oak!"
Then, of course, the kid signed with someone else. Since that means nothing.
I predicted in one of these threads that people would say this.
Canelo fought Cotto 11/21/15. He said after that fight that GGG was next. Then he fought Khan. Now he is saying it will be at least a year, and they will not sign on for the fight yet.
Of course people are going to start calling Canelo out for waiting for GGG to get old. At what point do you feel like that becomes a valid criticism?
As of right now, they are saying that
maybe, at the
very earliest, they will negotiate for next summer. So, that will be almost 2 years of "build-up" already, if they decide they are ready. If it's marinated enough.
Golvokin is gonna turn into an old man in just a year? Geez, you guys are already getting your excuses ready for when your boy loses...
The bigger excuses, right now, seem to be the ones being made for Canelo/Golden Boy kicking the can down the road a full year.
GGG should not be "old" in one year. But there is no fight deal signed for next year, and it has already been 7 months since Canelo won the lineal belt. So at the
very earliest, we're talking about 2 years since Canelo won the belt to make the fight.
So I'll ask you the same question I asked Seano. At what point are you going to say, Okay, Canelo seems to be avoiding this. Is 2 years a good time frame for you? If Golden Boy kicks the can again 14 months from now, are you going to hold strong on this position?
I find that people try to excuse their favorite fighters for pretty much anything they do. So I'm just trying to get some lines drawn in the sand, so in the future you at least have to stick to your guns and stop making excuses.
