I've done a total of about 3 no gi classes. I've been doing gi for over a year but my gym just started offering no gi. I want to start working single leg X-guard and either sweeping from there or transitioning to X guard. My question is, what are your preferred methods for even getting there?

I'm having a hard time getting there when my training partners are standing and I'm sitting down trying to make something happen from my back. Any advice is appreciated

I like to use shin on shin to get there, or in combination w/ arm drags.

Marcelo has a video on YouTube where he shows entries. I'm on my phone now so I can't link it. Try searching for "marcelo 1lx entry.

What I like to do is go to seated guard and grab the leg around the knee with my outside arm. Go shin to shin. When they start pushing into you treat it like a butterfly sweep which gives you the space to move your leg in. Note that I don't play this guard much though, so I don't know how good this method is.

Ahh, you all took my answer of getting there from shin to shin. Another way to go is shoot into butterfly guard, so your shins are on the inside of the knees and grab their heels. If they stay on their feet, the transition to single leg x is pretty self explanatory.

This and just watch footage of Marcelo rolling and you'll begin to see 2-3 entries he repeatedly utilizes. Great stuff!

One more for shin-on-shin. Probably 3/4 of my no-gi guard game.
