Getting strength without bulking up too much

what is the reccomended sets x reps to aim for when working or strength, but trying to keep your general size the same? Yes I know there will be growth regardless, which my muscles could definitley use, esp in some places, but I don't want to gain much mass. I haven't worked out in a while because I've been losing weight, burning pounds, getting lighter on my feet, and I've definitley retained my srength, I don't want to go back up in weight, but get stronger.

I know people here don't think too fondly of Pavel, but I've made decent strength gains without adding too much bulk using a 2 sets of 3-5 reps scheme. Keep your cals in check as already mentioned but I find only doing a couple of sets (not to failure) this way with heavy weight doesn't require that much recovery time.
