Have you done this? What is your opinion on it?How well did you train?etc?

My opinion is that the student in question not be allowed to train. situational awareness would likely be affected and either him or his training partner can get hurt. I am only alluding to the practical common sense terms without judging one way or the other.

I would not knowingly train with someone in that condition. Too many things can go wrong.

holy cow man you cant be serious? maybe if you went to class drunk, your mental mind wouldnt be there at all, but high on some pot? cmon man, its a downer , it makes you mellow, makes you more concentrated. dont let the commercials of the kids running over little girls while buying cheeseburgers fool you. weed isnt really that bad, and im not saying i smoke either.

I have never gotten stoned, then trained.
My opinion is that it is the stupidest thing you can do for your training.
I agree with the above poster re: situational awareness and chances for getting hurt. It's not like getting stoned is going to get you more aggressive or anything like that. It may increase your pain threshold, but again, that could lead to more injury with you and/or your partner.

Bottom line: if you have to ASK this type of question, you're probably not taking your training that seriously.

we often get this kind of question for some reason... i hope there's not going to be an influx of poseurs/rebels/teen angst/pothead skater types that start training BJJ...

Joe Rogan claims he grapples better when he's stoned.

Some white belts could sure use a pull or two to chill them out.

But i think it's a bad idea. You or ur partner can get hurt.
Not sure how much you'll learn and remember.

haven't tried it yet, but it does help when i play other sports. makes me more relaxed and body mechanics are smoother. probably not so good for the cardio on the long term tho.

When you are smoking regularly, everything will seem easier when you're high.

It's the same way with an alcoholic. Everything seems easier to them when they're under the influence. But anything they did, they could do better if they would stay away from the alcohol.

Somehow I doubt any hallucinogenic is going to make you perform a physical activity better unless you're addicted and accustomed to functioning under the influence, and even then, I still doubt you'll perform better depending on the substance.

Flammable why would you ask such a stupid fucking question? Are you stupid or just a troll?

I blame Joe Rogan and Eddie Bravo for this thread.

I dont think it is that stupid of a question. Most of the people who are flaming are people who do not smoke, and think it is a big deal.
Smoking in general will make you perform at a lower level, your body will not be able to process oxygen as quickly. However the upside is you are more mellow and normaly use less oxygen when your fighting relaxed.

Ive smoked plenty of times before and after practice. I feel more awake and rdy to go when i dont smoke. Its not nearly as big of a deal as some of these rookies are making it out to be.

Who ever said you pain threshhold will increase is an idiot, its pot.. give me a fucking break. Anyone who smokes on the regular will not notice that big of a difference. Its not going to lead you to not know where your at in the fight.

Like mosty things what it comes down to is preference. It isnt going to be that big of a deal, just burn one next time your on your way to practice and try it out. It might make you a little more on the lazy side, might not... give it a shot.

I really cant believe how much some people hate on this. I guarntee all of the people who said they wouldnt roll with someone who was messed up, have rolled with somone who is high. The number of guys that smoke and do bjj is staggering. I really dont see a problem with it... i think everyone should smoke.. Haile Selassie Rastfari! lol

Although I disagree with the advice to try smoking before class, at least it is an informed post, rather than a "drugs are bad, mmkay" post. :)
Gsoares2 is right, your pain threshold will not change (it shouldn't anyways). Cannabis is not like alcohol, and will not make you more immune to pain than usual. Cannabis is not like opiates/opiods, and will not dull pain.
It is simply a VERY mild hallucinogenic, and if anything, it will make you a bit lazy, anxious, and you will probably get tired a lot faster. This is another thing I disagree with gsoares2 on. I think cannabis has a tendency to make people anxious, not relaxed. But this is where it effects everyone different. Most people get anxious from smoking. Some just get really lazy. Yet I know some guys who get a burst of energy and want to go exercise. It probably depends on the strain of the cannabis, and the individual.

I don't smoke and I think it's a bad idea to try rolling while under the influence if you take your training seriously at all. It seems like common sense to me.

I dont know about getting stoned for practice, but! when it comes to going calm, weed is the way.

Im not sure. But when I play poker stoned. I am the best fucker you've ever seen on a table.
Maybe, maybe. Maybe, one might learn a thing or two, rolling high. Seeing angles. But most importantly staying calm in the head, and really listen to the stuff going in your head as you roll.
