I'd love to see them successfully unionize, however, you're missing out on how much harder that is in an individual sport than a team one.

If half of the NBA decides to strike, you've got serious issues in trying to carry on - with balance, competitiveness, and perceived legitimacy.

If half the UFC decides to strike, Dana says "fuck you", you get blackballed for life, he signs a bunch of no names to replace everyone, and fans never know the difference because a) most of them are mouth-breathing idiots who just figure "if you're in the UFC, you're good, and if you're not, you suck", and b) the roster is so gigantic, even more serious and intelligent fans can't keep up with everyone, and lots of UFC fighters genuinely aren't any big deal these days.

Seriously I have been saying something similar. I was riled up when I found out that Dillashaw wasn't compensated for stepping up and saving UFC 177. I wanted to sucker throat grab him too.

There is no "blueprint" for athletes from an organization with a 300-500 man roster, who compete in front of paying fans twice a year each, to band together and form a union and take home large sums of cash.

The cream of roster, guys who can actually put asses in the seats, can get paid large... the revenues just aren't there to write big paychecks for everybody.

An NBA basketball game has just over the same number of athletes compete in it as a UFC event. There are plenty guys in those games who are only taking home 40k or so per game.

Training is hard; I get it. But there are no revenues to share with you coming in from your training sessions. There are only revenues on fight night.
 
Put up or shut up. But every time they get a MMA association going Dana ends up buying out the big names that are supposed to lead it. Lol. I remember, TJ, GSP, Kennedy, Cain, Cowboy etc were all attached to some MMA fighters association, where is it now???

I agree they have form a Union. Most likely that means going on strike and suffering financially until the UFC breaks which they surely will eventually. Without the fighters UFC doesn't exist so they certainly have power win a strike

Its not really MMA fighters as a whole its only UFC fighters. Everyone at Bellator is very happy with their pay. Most of that goes with the fact they have more freedom. They arent held back by the Reebok deal where they are free to carry as many sponsorship's as possible which means since the UFC fighters are not able to reep the rewards of the many sponsorships available to the MMA world that leaves Bellator fighters (being the only other main stream company) have all the sponsorship's for themselves. So they are doing very well.

If they all expect Conor McGregor money they all better gets lawyers forget a union. The UFC will continue doing what its doing since they have a current 4 billion dollar debt they haven't even begin to pay off yet. The fighters are the least of their worries. Hence why they need to give a title belt to every fighter in a main event nowadays in order to get those PPV buys.
