My gloves are to the point now where everytime I use them my hands stink to high Heaven for the rest of the day. I trained this morning at 9am and at 6pm my hand still reek. No joke, I have had people here today asking "who has their shoes off" and stuff like that. I have always just dealt with it in the past, but now that I work after I train, it is kinda embarassing.

Anybody have any tricks to get that stanky glove smell off your hands. I have tried soap (obviously), hand santizer, and shampoo and none of it works.

And yes, I have ordered new gloves. I do, however, have to use the old ones until they get here (obviously skipping the workouts till' they get here is not an option).

:D

your not supposed to get your gloves wet. Have you tried lysol?

This should be in gear/equipment

but i would either spray febreeze or time to get new ones

also if your wearing tape underneath, it should be able to absorb all the sweat - smell

I don't know why I didn't think of that. I guess cause I have never been in there so I forgot it exsisted.

Really though, I am more interested in getting the smell off my hands than out of the glove. I have done all the quick fixes to the gloves (Lysol, etc.) but they are FUBAR at this point. New gloves are on the way.

for you next pair of gloves might I suggest you get glovedogs for them. Or at least buy cedar

Definitely. Glovedogs are money well spent.

Also, get a few pairs of wraps and wash them after each use. You can get a mesh bag at just about any store to wash them in.

i soap the shit out of my hands under the nails with liquid, antibacterial, bar soap, cold water, hot water. After just an hour of training with wrapped hands, all that soaping still cannot get rid of some of the smell under the cuticle.

edit: lawlz i got purple belted

Cool, I definately will. I actually never even heard of them till now.

Thats not a bad idea either. I wash the one pair I have as much as I can, but training 4 days a week doesn't leave much time to wash them.

I have your solution.

To get rid of the smell in your hands, wash your hands in a solution made up of cold water and vinegar. Yes, vinegar. Wash for a minute or so, then soap & water and you're golden.

MAKE SURE YOU AIR OUT your gloves after using them, then place them under direct sunlight. This is the best way to PREVENT the smell from developing. Once a mild smell develops, try freezing your gloves. Once a strong, lingering smell develops, you're fucked... get new gloves. Sometimes NOTHING will help.

BEAUTIFUL! This is what I was looking for. We sell vinegar here so I will give it a shot right now (I'm sure they wont miss one little bottle :icon_twis ).

Thanks all.

I second the vinegar. Works great for getting the smell of onions off your hands too. Rubbing your hands with lemons and than washing with cold water is a more pleasant smelling way of getting rid of the smell but not quite as effective.

When you get your new gloves always put powder in them when you're done with them (I use medicated Gold Bond), and if your friends use them make them powder their hands AND the gloves.

I also wipe down all my gloves/pads with anti-bacterial wipes every couple of days, and air them out.

Good stuff! Much obliged.

glove maintenance 101:

After every use, open the glove up totally, put in a well ventillated area (preferably outside) and air them out until you train again.

if they do start to build a minor smell, lightly spray with antibacterial lysol, sit to dry.

wipe the outside with leather wipe ocassionally.

I like to use a boot dryer for my gloves. After I get home I just put my gloves on my boot dryer and leave them there until I train again. The dryer helps push air through the gloves and dry all the sweat out of them. Works very well. On the stench part, vinegar and lemon sound like the best so far!

after i use my mma gloves i like to dry them out, then spray them with a little fabreeze and then put them in the dryer on air dry with a few dryer sheets. i do the same with my gi.
To get the smell off your hands, you might want to use an old cooks trick for getting onion and garlic smell off your hand. take a big silver spoon and wet your hands and rub it all over your hand. sounds weird but it works for garlic and onions. they even make metal bars of soap for that. Don't know if it works for glove funk though.
