I actually really enjoyed the silence. Harkened back to the old Shooto and Pancrase days where you could hear a pin drop and impact of every strike that landed. The crowd was just fully invested in the technical aspects of the fight and only applauded or cheered when something significant happened. With this, sure, there was less ambient energy but it allowed you to focus more on the fights with less distraction. I'm not saying crowds don't have their advantages in generating hype and interest but it's not fully necessary.
